Spiritualized at Moseley Folk Festival

Post by Starfish »

Set was pretty much the same as the other festivals this summer, only a bit a shorter and they started off with Hey Jane (after a rusty first verse of So Long You Pretty Thing).

It meant I knew I could go for a comfort break as Oh Baby started.

Otherwise, pretty good. Shine A Light/ Electric Mainline was its usual highpoint. Soul On Fire seemed to be shortened, but Come Together was a great closer.

Spotted for the first time that J has customised his Marshall amp. (pic below)

I thought Electric Mainline was the best version I've ever heard, I got lost in it.

cool. glad to hear some positive reports. the lacklustre setlist may not matter so much if they are firing on all cylinders.
it's a very nice setting for a festival.

friend of mine also went to this and he said it was "mesmerising"

Admittedly I've only seen the photo on my phone, but I wasn't sure if it had been deliberately customized, or simply suffered the inevitable fate of backline that's done the rounds without a flightcase? Am guessing it wasn't just hired since there is all that LX tape on it.

Am I missing something here? The supposed "mod" is just losing the "...hall" from "Marshall" to say "Mars"? Imagining this was done on purpose - most folks familiar with plexis are surely more likely to assume it was damaged, broken etc, rather than done on purpose ... or have I managed to completely miss something obvious?!?
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

He's been using that head for a while now I think. I hope he's done it deliberately. J Spaceman with his Mars amp would work rather well.

It must be deliberate... the "Spaceman" guitar strap, the pullover with stars all over it, the galaxy backdrop... and a Mars amp! :-)

I'm sure he used an amp with the pure phase logo on it back in the day too... might even have been luminous too

Here's a pic from last year.

So it must be quite recent the Mars head.

That's from the Ace show isn't it (The stage looked beautiful for that show)? My guess is that would have been a hired amp. From the shots at Glastonbury he had it then.

Man, I'm such a gear geek...

I'm a fan of (Eels frontman) Mark Oliver Everett's modified amp:

In Spiritualized-world very little is left to coincidence I think.

I mean there's always a chance that the initial Spaceman Records releases (post LAG) featured the serial numbers prefixed with 'OPM'(!) by bizarre coincidence... but I doubt it.

Best amp/head custom I've seen was from the footage of Led Zeppelin at the O2 - Grand Magus Page's Orange amp just had three letters left: O, R and G.

I thought Page's Orange amps had O R G E on them?

I totally agree about not leaving much up to coincidence with Spiritualized. He loves the little details.

Haha - thanks guys.

Yeah, just like Page actually, Jason's work is never not done unknowingly.

I remember trying to explain to someone why I loved the works of Spiritualized so much, and one factor was that was about the incredibly tireless attention to detail in every single aspect of all their records.

Yes he used to use a HH VS Musician Combo with the logo stencilled on in silver. The panel behind the the controls light up.

I still have a VS musician head.....
