Underworld - "Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future"

Post by One Asian Under A Groove »

Have any fellow board members heard the new Underworld album yet? I am severely regretting not shelling out for the fancy box set, as I think this has potential classic status. It's got a warmth that I don't always associate with Underworld. The middle two "slow" tracks are outstanding, not just filler before the beat kicks in again. And the final song is so uplifting...

Ha! Is that really the title? That's slipped me by but I have to say I'm curious...

I've heard good things about it, and I'm a huge fan of the first three albums. Will probably give it a whirl soon..

Good to hear the positive reviews of this. I've been considering it, but am debating which to buy of the recent/forthcoming electronic releases that interest me. Also on my radar are the new Eno, Bibio and The Field albums.

“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

A real hint of Mark E Smith in that.

I'm interested enough to pick up the album.

I'm going to buy a copy just for that title. Some great music is on the shelves because I was amused or intrigued!

The title is a phrase Rick Smiths father said to his mother not long before he died apparently, 62 yrs married.

Which only makes the whole thing more heartwarming and beautiful. Rick Smith's daughter and Karl Hyde's daughter both sing backing vocals on the album. The final song, "Nylon Strung", is blissful - I've found myself singing the main refrain from it to my baby daughter as she settles to sleep. Usually I just sing "Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space"!

This Title has a surreal Happiness about it, Euphoric really; I am not surprised it came from "real people" at an ultimately difficult time. I still like this Title; it seems to blur Hope with Reality, and the words alone are pleasant - even if their origin is found to be not a happy one.
