Caroline Crawley RIP

Post by mc »

Caroline Crawley, the woman responsible for those beyond heavenly backing vocals on "The Slide Song", has died :(

I first saw the news surfing the Drownedinsound forum; I recognised her name instantly and wondered if it was the same person. Then I saw this Pitchfork article, which even cites "The Slide Song" as a late-career highlight. Time to check out her own material.

Very sad. She provided some vocals for Ivo Watts-Russells' This Mortal Coil and also for Shelleyan Orphan. Her work on those LPs is astonishing.

In the last twenty years, why did I never once type her name into google and see if she'd ever made any other music? It's never too late, I suppose, but it feels bittersweet at best. Time to catch up on Shelleyann Orphan :(

I've now bought "Century Flower" and am utterly addicted to "Shatter". What a beautiful song.
