A life changing record.
I cant imagine my life without this record and everything that came after it. Which includes life long friendships, this forum and hours and hours of musical bliss.
Sounds hokey but it is 100% the truth.

LGM is without a doubt my favourite album of all time. I too used to fall asleep to it regularly (t'was my usual bedtime choice between the ages of 17-21 :) ) before girlfriends, flatmates and other living arrangements meant I had to quit the habit of sleepy-time music. But whenever I'm alone at night, I tend to stick on headphones when I go to bed, and I still usually choose LGM as my soporific tunes of choice. Nowadays I fall asleep much more easily than I used to do, so instead of the full album I usually jump straight to track 3 (i.e. Take Your Time) and let LGM's second half do its work :)

I was an impoverished PhD student when this came out, supplementing my income doing stagelighting. I recall buying a copy of the cassette at a discount music shop opposite Centrepoint while working on a gig at the Astoria. I always thought it was a Fall gig ( 8) ), but a quick google search suggests it was Jesus Jones ( ) on April 1st.....I told you I was impoverished at the time.

A life changing album for me. Even though I'd just been going out in Rugby for a year or so at the time it came out I'd never heard of Spacemen 3 or Spiritualized. I was clearly going to the wrong places.

I still thank the Coventry Evening Telegraph for the glowing album review that set my life on a subtly different and much more interesting course. Maybe some other band would have caught my interest or maybe I might have got into them at a later date. But it looking back there may not be many moments in life that can start a love affair so strong with a band that will send you off to countless remote gigs, festivals and also start an obsessive filling of the gaps, discovering Spacemen 3, and all their influences.

Thank you Spiritualized, and all the musicians who worked on that exceptional album, including of course Mark Refoy, Willie B Carruthers, Johnny Mattock, Kate Radley.

^ Nice shots

A pretty suite review below and by far my personal favorite and most played Spiritualized album
https://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/review/2168/

I was lucky enough to get the original LGM poster on ebay (one of the offices found a few spare lying around apparently) off the back of this post a few years back:
http://spiritualized.band/viewtopic.php ... 875#p89959 so Im thinking its finally time to get the original LGM poster framed and hung ( I was holding off thinking it might be a touch too ghostly where my young son was concerned).

a snapshot from 2011. Quite pricey but cash well spent :D

Stone cold classic it is.

That is the US version 24 by 36 inches.
There are two diff UK posters. A sky blue one measuring 23 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches.
There is also a red UK subway poster 5 feet by 3 feet.
All difficult to find. There are most likely more US posters out there.

Recently got that US poster framed for my birthday. Still not found a place on the wall for it though.

Not only LGM's 25th anniversary but also that of two of my other all time faves: Honey's Dead and Soul Kiss Glide Divine, all three released within weeks of each other.
Honourable mention of course for Going Blank Again too.

1992, for me personally, a memorable year in a whole bunch of ways.

I only ever saw the color variations I mentioned.
I have told this story before.
When in London for a buying/trading trip for my shop I walked into Dedicated's offices and asked if they had any promo LGM stuff. Anything at all.
The receptionist came back with a smile on her face with a large tube. 5 red subway posters and about 10 smaller blue posters.
Also sitting in reception were the Angel & Devil figures that were used for the cover. Each about 2 feet tall on a big black box base. They looked to be made of plastic resin or something similar. They were shiny too.
I've often wondered where those wound up?

I played LGM for the first time in ages yesterday. What a fantastic record, it's still my fav album by Spirtualized. It's got a lovely mellow laid back vibe about it, and there just seems to be alot more "space" in the songs. I feel like the newer material is a lot more song based, with more prominet vocals which leads to the songs being performed almost identically in the live environment, whereas the older tracks allow for more improvisation and different directions. Probbaly talking out my ar5e, but that how it feels!

All the singles from that period are great too - especially the majestic Feels So Sad.

Sometimes I wish that Jason would make LGM2.

I bought the large red version from ebay after seeing a link here back in the day, which might have been from you?
It's been a few years since then, so don't remember all the details, but...

A friend of mine worked at a plastics/lamination shop at the time and he offered to laminate it for me at no cost (would have cost apprx. $100). I was hesitant that it might get damaged, but then gave the go ahead. It turned out amazing sealed in clear gloss plastic lamination with the red literally popping - it's still flexible and able to roll if need be, and will last probably forever now. I have it on a wall of a small bedroom nook at my art studio, and cherish it every day. Not sure if laminating it devalued the collectability of the poster, but I don't really care as I never plan to sell it...unless the price is right of course!

Time flies doesn't it? I remember seeking out my copy after purchasing Pure Phase when I read about the Spaceman in the NME. Managed to find the Chain With No Name issue with the 7" and I'm pretty sure that I paid £12 for it from Revolution Records in Windsor. Finding the band at this time of my life certainly changed my musical outlook and sent me off in a new direction. Haven't played the LP for about a year or so  Time to dig it out.

Happy LGM day!

I remember my first listening of this flawless record, i was in high school and couldn't believe my ears. We had lots narcotic times with the album, take your time, etc.. Man... Glorious days.

Now, when i go back to this album, all i see is a beautiful concept, a peaceful sound. Tonight i will listen the entire album with a bottle of red wine, then continue with the b-sides and the lovely demos. It is interesting that this album became soundtrack of some era of my life.

Life sure is weird but what else we have to know?

Tried to find my cassette of this today without luck. I did find my 28 year old Walkman though and to my surpise it still works  . This was an album that I had only listened to via this shitty walkman through rubbish headphones until around the time pure phase was released. The quality of the tape was questionable too (and it cost me £4 which was a lot of money for me in 1992  ) . I recall opening an unplayed two and a half year old LP when I was reunited with my record player and being absolutely stunned at how clear and sharp and precise that this blurry music I loved was..... and then a few weeks later I played Pure Phase for the first time.... 8)

Fuck I hope the new LP is as good...

I've just started my own LGM evening with a glass of wine and the original album; many singles, radio sessions and demos will be played tonight! Given the occasion, I thought I'd share my "alternative" version of LGM I put together a few years ago. Each track is replaced with my favourite alternative version of the song:

01. You Know It's True (Rehearsal) - from Friendly Fire
02. If I Were With Her Now (Alt. Mix) - from Blue On Blue
03. I Want You - from Run/I Want You
04. Run - from Run/I Want You
05. Smiles (Peel Session) - from Medication 7"
06. Step Into The Breeze (Part 1) - from Anyway That You Want Me
07. 100 Bars (Flashback) - from I Want You 7"
08. Take Your Time (Alt. Vox) - from Blue On Blue
09. Shine A Light (Unreleased Mix) - from Friendly Fire
10. Angel Sigh Guitars (Alt. Mix) - from Blue On Blue
11. Sway (Live) - from Mark Radcliffe Session August 1993
12. 200 Bars (Alt. Mix) - from Blue On Blue

You can't improve on perfection, but I love having these versions gathered together as a fresh album :)

Download it here and enjoy (tagged etc for iTunes; let me know if there's problems downloading):

You're very welcome, FM! These versions contain some of my all-time favourite Spiritualized moments, like:

> The alternative bridge of If I Were With Her Now - that minute of chiming, interlocking celestial guitars is purest aural heaven, and to me, the single greatest piece of "lost" Spiritualized. If only it was in the LGM version

> Jason's effects-free vocals in Shine A Light and the way the wall of guitars outro smashes through the speakers...

> The beautiful guitar riff underpinning the 'hey mama...' section of Sway, relegated to the background in the LGM version but given full prominence here...

I must have gone straight from school, was in the 6th form then, to Probe to pick up the ltd CWNN copy with the extra 7". Judging by those select reviews page I might have also picked up my copy of the Unsane album at the same time. Subsequently bought 2 versions of the CD, one the same as the record in 4 movements and one with track splits.

The NME review (in the days when it was an essential read) gave it a '9.999 recurring' rating which rather amused me at the time.

When I got home I dug out my copies of Friendly Fire and Blue On Blue, opened a special bottle of red wine, hit play and sat down.
We are pretty lucky to have two CDs worth of outtakes, rehearsals and peel sessions from this monster that is Lazer Guided Melodies.

Are those last 2 tracks correct?
The other copy I have has Smiles after Shine A Light/Clear Rush.
Also has an outro with the same Swedish announcer after it.

I know there has been discussion if this recording has the correct pitch or if Sway was just really played that slow.
