Moon Duo - London 17th May

Post by TogetherWeCan »

17th May 2011 at Corsica Studios - Baba Yaga's Hut and Together We Can Walk On Water Present:

Moon Duo
Kim Ki O
Trogons
Cherrystones

We all know about the Wooden Shjips. They’ve been a must for any self -respecting psych fans hard-drive for a couple of years now. They started their drone rock revolution in San Francisco and then it quickly rumbled across the country and waves until it had consumed us all. The revolution was swift and smooth - they just walked across the lands with their fat ,hypnotic bass lines, stomping beats and beautiful fuzzy glaze. It was easy; they stole our minds and quickly became the true figureheads of the psychedelic drone scene today. It was 2006 when they first got together and by 2008 they were selling out shows all over the world.

Well cruising out of San Francisco on an autobahn of their own, Moon Duo are a heavy blast of fuzzed out psych, kosmische keyboards and motorik beats whose rise to stardom has been even swifter. Formed in 2009 by Wooden Shjips frontman Erik ‘Ripley’ Johnson and Sanae Yamada, the duo, initially inspired by John Coltrane and Rashied Ali’s liberated sax and drums masterpiece Interstellar Space, also doff their caps to such sainted freaks as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Suicide, Moolah and Cluster and Spacemen 3. It’s all in there: hazy organ drones, the arthritic beats of ancient drum machines and zoned vocals.
