Supporting the Artist

Postby nghst » Sat May 11, 2013 6:07 pm

I've been thinking about this recently. What is the best way to make sure an artist such as Jason/Spiritualized gets compensated when I purchase their music. I read that artists only get around 8 cents from a 99 cent download on iTunes. I wonder what their cut is from a cd or record sale.

I used to purchase many albums on eBay and Amazon and yet I doubt the artists got any money from that because I was mostly buying from private sellers.

Going to shows and buying music there, zero middle man plus ticket money going yo the artist - next to buying directly from artists' sites, next to buying from labels sites etc etc

what makes it difficult for me is i can't get to shows like i used to. between schedule and ticket prices, i just can't.

it would be nice to know a purchase gave a greater portion to the artist / band.
