9th December Union Chapel gig

Post by rd_se3 »

A newbie here (this could possibly be my only post) - but I've just seen Spiritualized at the Union Chapel, and even in the post-gig euphoria, I can safely say I've never seen a better gig.

Jason, keyboardist, string quartet, 3 gospel singers. Marvellous setting. Quite quite stunning. The audible gasp as they followed on one song in the encore with "Silent Night" was memorable. I won't ruin it for anyone else going tomorrow...

That was the fourth time I've seen the Acoustic Mainlines show, and easily the best, even though they didn't play Shine a Light, which we were really looking froward to after seeing it was played in the US leg.

The Union Chapel is by a distance my favourite gig venue of all time - it's so good they're holding shows there again. This show has joined Sigur Ros and Low as an incredible hat-trick of wondrous experiences for me there...

We were sitting directly behind Jason's missus and her friends - she must have been so proud. In fact, I swear I saw her wipe away a little tear during Stop Your Crying...

I kind of wish I was going again tonight - but then I also kind of don't, because the spell cast last night was so magical that it would be hard to repeat.

I taped the show, and it'll be interesting to hear how it came out - certainly the sound was lush and clear from where we were sitting, especially Doggen's Fender Rhodes, which has always been too far down the mix when I've seen them before. Jason's voice was on top form too, I thought.

Lovely, lovely night - a distinct end to a time now gone - bring on the Electric Mainlines in 2008!!!

have to agree it was really something special last night. the sound was unbelievable so fantastically clear. Everyone on that stage put their heart into that performance I was absolutely absorbed by it all. So many songs touched me in a big way especially Feel So Sad and Broken heart. a night I will never forget.

here are some photos

Spiritualized - Union Chapel, 9 December 2007

Description Last night's Spiritualized show at the Union Chapel in Islington. Perhaps the ideal band to perform in this big church. Word is that these two shows in London will be the last time Spiritualized perform their Acoustic Mainlines show, which is a great shame - it's possibly the best thing they've ever done.

We've still got a couple of weeks till Christmas, but it's near enough for Spiritualized to give us a performance of 'Silent Night' in the encore...

Without a doubt the most overwhelmingly amazing gig I have ever attended. I took a man with me on a second date who was suitably enchanted and is now firmly hooked. On the band I mean, not me - that would be a rather vain conclusion to draw! x

Fantastic recording! There is a Father Christmas and his name is Mr. Brown! Many, many thanks for this. If I'm extra good until the end of the year will there be a DVD?

Worth bringing this up to let whoever originally taped the Union Chapel 2007 Acoustic Show (thank you) know that NME have declared it the best bootleg...ever!

http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog= ... more=1&c=1

I would have to agree with this sentiment as well...

"Death to all the fucking morons who spend entire gigs with their shit camera phone held up, obscuring my/your view of the band and making videos that – at best – they will giggle at once on the bus home with their mates..."

And the second placed boot is that early Kraftwerk show I put a few folks on here onto a couple of years back. Spz message board rules!!
