CD only, from the looks of that link. Wonder how much the 'digital remaster' will help the sound?

That link no longer appears to work. A search on Rough Trade and Space Age yields no results. Strange stuff....

That pic isn't showing up here Pete, might just be this phone though.

More to the point, this is horrendous and brutal behaviour by clearly a very underhand, Machiavellian and simply dodgy "businessman".

Do you mean that you have had no input into the Space Age releases? The hell???

Hope this works out in the best possible way. I think all of us here would support that and do what we can.

There must be some of us here with legal knowledge etc?

Is it worth contacting distributors of the bootleg to ask them to cease and desist?

The murky world of shady contractual agreements continues...

Such as shame as the legacy of Spacemen 3 is tarnished with this kind of bullshit.

Best wishes though.

I definitely won't be purchasing that CD...

Best x

Surely a fan or friend of Spacemen 3 must know a lawyer that could help. I know loads of lawyers in the US but that would do no good.
You have someone stealing bands livelihood's that needs to be stopped. It is a pattern with what happened with The Enid and now Spacemen 3. I am sure there are probably more bands that GP did this to that had no money to get anyone to fight for them.

How on earth does a British court find Gerald Palmer acted in bad faith then not only force the band who took him to court to pay their own costs but his as well. That defies logic.
This really sucks.

Unbelievable that this guy is still fucking with Spacemen 3 even after 25+ years. What a dick.

I was always under the impression that PK had some involvement in Spaceage. This really stinks.

Good luck getting what's owed to you, Peter. I hope one day you (and Jason) get the rights to the music you created, too.

My 'involvement' was doing artwork & mastering on either my own , Spectrum or Spacemen 3....

Gerald palmer has always been 100% space age owner .

Please share this .

That's the only good part as the Space Age pressings tend to sound decent, but if the musicians get next to nothing from these releases they are obviously worth avoiding.

I hope some exposure here - and on the Spacemen 3 Appreciation Society group on Facebook - builds some momentum of support for the band. I wish we could be more help.

For the story behind Gerald Palmer vs. The Enid people should take a look. It's pretty scary:

So who's on Sonic's side? (apart from us of course!)

Since Space Age has been going so long, has Sonic (and any other members of Spacemen 3/EAR/Spectrum etc) been unfairly treated for the whole time?

I did post something in a thread regarding Erik Morse's book about this too, as this seems to indicate (unless I read this wrongly), that there was a possible thawing of relations at one point. Sorry if this is wrong (it was some time ago), but how can one person get treated so badly?

Is Sonic able to do his own thing independently and/or with trusted people, or has Gerald's ownership of everything Spacemen related basically got Sonic scuppered?

Didn't realise how unjust this all was.

How can we support Sonic and any future related releases, and make sure the money goes to the right person?

it's affecting Jason , Pete Bain , Rosco , Will & Jonny as well as myself.......

you would be stunned if I unloaded all the details ......

I met Will & Rosco last week & am intouch w Pete Bain regularly .
We are also in contact with Jason and he is well aware of the situation .

the most important thing at the moment though is to share & re-tweet and don't buy from any labels you believe are ripping off the band .
thank you for caring - please keep sharing the above post xpk

I had no idea that Space Age was operating outside the benefit of the band members. That truly sucks.

I will always share this information and encourage people not to purchase from that label.

Was the New Morning LP produced illegally as well? I feel a bit bad for having purchased one now.

I have been watching used records on eBay, but of course there's no revenue for the band on those. Pity.

the vinyl was an approved release .
this bootleg cd is a rip including vinyl crackles from the mental groove release .......super weak
ditto the Itunes version - it is a rip from vinyl purporting to be 'remastered'

please do not buy ANY Space Age releases - they are denying myself & other band members their due royalties .

Sonic, are they screwing you over on your Spectrum and E.A.R. releases as well? I bought a few E.A.R. albums from iTunes recently, and it'd be awful if you're not seeing any of the download revenues.

When Palmer lost the previous case as detailed The Enid vs. Gerald Palmer youtube video, the judge (you'd hope) would have admonished him for his devious and unprofessional conduct when the verdict was read out. If he ends up in court again in front of a judge on a similar charge of again trying to copyright himself as the band without consulting its members, not to mention ripping off several people of their rightful earnings, you really have to hope that justice is properly and strongly served this time around. Surely the law has a job to do if this guy is continuing ripping bands off and basically stealing their legal identity, property and money?

100% hope the former members of Spacemen 3 get this leech out of their lives and away from their intellectual property pronto.

there are several long long cases of Spacemen 3 getting ripped off by their labels .........

we're giving them a last chance to rectify the situation before looking to the courts and public opinion ....

this info is the tip of the iceberg.....

If the situation does not improve i'll share the info with you .

meanwhile , please share between yourselves . In this instance I see no reason to say don't......

THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE STEPPED FORWARD WITH VARIOUS HELPS & OFFERS

WE DID NOT MAKE THIS MUSIC TO MAKE CORPORATE PSYCHOS RICHER .
WE ONLY ASK FOR WHAT WE ARE REASONABLY DUE

I GET ZERO ROYALTIES FROM THE SPACEMEN 3 RELEASES ON SPACE AGE

Let me start by saying that this information saddens me greatly -- especially since over the years I have bought pretty much every Space Age release that features Sonic Boom music (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum). And in the case of Spacemen 3, the Space Age releases I bought were not my first version of each album. So I am very annoyed to find out that the band did not receive royalties for all this music of theirs which I bought. (Further to that, the Space Age releases were often my first chance to purchase Spacemen 3 music in such a way that the band COULD get royalties since a lot of my previous purchases were from used record shops!). I sincerely hope this gets resolved soon and in the favour of the folks who made this great music in the first place and deserve their fair share of any sales of it...

And now, feeling a bit like Derek Smalls raising a practical question, is it OK to purchase the Peter Zinovieff comp? I was really looking forward to buying that but haven't gotten around to it yet. In light of this recent news, I'm wondering if that release is also a rip-off. I don't want to support Space Age anymore but if Peter gets money from sales of that release, then I will feel better about forking over the cash...

Pete, when you say "share amongst yourselves" do you mean the board or are you happy for it to be shared on social media the fact that you get no royalties from the Spaceage releases?

Terrible to hear that, seeing as you've actually done artwork, mastering etc for them.

Is the case the same for the Spectrum and EAR releases on that label?

I listened to my copy of The New Atlantis the other week and although i really enjoyed it, i did felt guilty that my monies were probably never seen by the band at all :(

Screwing the bands and the fans... shitty state of affairs...

Was looking at the SpaceAge website earlier and noticed that you can't actually purchase anything. Not sure if there has been an injunction put on the sale of stuff but good that (hopefully) something has been put in place to stop them earning any more money off the back of this.

Will this crook stop at nothing?
There are Spacemen 3 T-Shirts on ebay (surprise, surprise) which are being sold as 100% official. One is the pyramid symbol and the other is a mock up of the Playing With Fire cover.
I enquired with the vendor who was not listed as Space Age or Adasam for extra info and was informed that they would get in touch with Space Age Recordings to pass on my query.
The cheeky, robbing b*stards even have a little R (not sure how to post it but I guess it's to show it's registered as a trademark) next to the name Spacemen 3
Keep your eyes open people and stay well clear.

I've just called up normanrecords to let them know the situation and to check out this site for Sonic's and Pete's and I would have thought the full ex-Spacemen 3 band member's thoughts are on the Space Age label and associated crooks. As Sonic has said spread the word - knowledge is power!

Great! I only gave the links from Norman since they're my go-to place for ordering from the UK and I saw the discs as being available for pre-order in one of their e-mails. But, of course, they're not the only ones listing these:

The original designs back in the day - which were printed on really poor quality shirts - sell for hundreds of pounds. I chucked mine out years ago as they went all out of shape. Wish I hadn't!

A while ago, there was some "big news" forthcoming - any updates?

So what is the exact situation here?

If Gerald owns any releases that are under Spacemen 3, is this also the case with anything released under the Spectrum, Sonic Boom and EAR monikers? If Gerald essentially "is" Space Age, does that also mean Sonic is unable to release anything on any other labels too, and rightfully claim it as his?

Is he able to release material under a different name and retain ownership?

Incidentally, what happened to "On The Wings Of Mercury", and is there anything else in the pipeline?
