The Telescopes / Slipstream / One Unique Signal - LIVE

It's fairly unlikely you'd have made it here without ever having heard of Jason's previous incarnation. So here you go, talk away...

THE TELESCOPES - http://www.myspace.com/thetelescopes

The Telescopes were formed in 1987 by Stephen Lawrie and are a noise/space rock band.

Their debut release was a split flexi disc with Loop on the Cheree label in 1988, which was given away with the Sowing Seeds fanzine. There followed their debut single, "Kick the Wall", and "7th Disaster" also on Cheree Records. They moved to the American What Goes On Records and released their debut LP, Taste and "The Perfect Need...le" single.

A live album appeared on Fierce Records and following What Goes On’s bankruptcy they signed to Creation Records. In contrast to Taste's noise-rock, a more laid back, baggy influenced sound followed, described by journalist Alexis Petridis as having "an almost fragile sense of elegance and melody", and the band entered the UK singles chart with the single "Flying", and released The Telescopes, their second album.

In 2002 they made a surprise return with "The Third Wave" on Double Agent Records. In 2005 they released their fourth album "The Telescopes #4" on their own Antenna Records.

SLIPSTREAM

Slipstream started in 1994 after Mark Refoy left Spiritualized. Over the following years 2 albums were released, Slipstream and Be Groovy Or Leave, and a compilation cd, Side Effects, on Che Records. In 1999 the single Everything And Anything was released on Enraptured. This track appears in the BBC comedy series Ideal. In 2002 Enraptured released a cd of various outtakes and new tracks etc called Transcendental. In 2004 Slipstream, now a two piece consisting of Mark Refoy and Jonny Mattock, decided to play live again with the help of a computer and sequencer. Their latest album called Mantra, mixed by Pete Gleadall, was released on October 6th 2008 on the Enraptured label. They are working on songs for their new album called Stereo Brain, Mono Heart.

ONE UNIQUE SIGNAL - http://www.myspace.com/oneuniquesignal

“One Unique Signal play with the ferocious detachment of men so far gone in possession that everything else has become irrelevant.” - Drowned in Sound

Repetitious drums sit alongside wall of noise guitars, feedback, tremolos and ear piercing wah. Taking obscene levels of noise and accommodating them into recognizable forms, the music seems at once both malevolent and comforting.
