Beat that... I'll take that bet... The Pretty Things 1964-1970/71! One minor blip with their third LP ("Emotions") but, the songs are still very strong. Unfortunately, in a misguided attempt to gain wider appeal the producer chose to add sappy strings and horns to the final mix.

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Harvey Mandel - "Games Guitars Play" Great guitar player from Chicago who eventually joined Canned Heat. I love his first two solo albums, found this third solo recently in cheap bins and have been really enjoying it. His version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" is clearly the template for the Flamin' Gr...

Re: Football (American style)

I've always considered Stephen Stills an underrated guitarist. Sure, I have read he wasn't very nice but my feeling is that anybody who is addicted to drugs probably isn't very nice. Musically, I love Buffalo Springfield, the first two CSN/CSN&Y albums, his first two solo LP's and the double LP "Man...

Re: Here Kitty, Nice Kitty Cat

Not the suburbs that this big cat was seen! This is city limits proper and a very populated area. Coincidentally, we were just at this park last night for my son's baseball game.

Re: Eels. Simple, understated, breathtaking and beautiful.

"The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett" entered the UK album charts at No. 7 this week - eels' highest position since "Beautiful Freak" back in 1996. I normally couldn't give a fig about the charts, but this makes me very happy :D As expected, it is nowhere to be seen in American charts. Whil...

Re: Eels. Simple, understated, breathtaking and beautiful.

And then there's "A Swallow In The Sun". I don't even know why this song floors me so much, but it does. Just reaches out, grabs my heart and squeezes tight. Totally agree! Should have highlighted this song as well. Absolutely beautiful and so perfectly composed. I was listening to it just yesterda...

Re: Eels. Simple, understated, breathtaking and beautiful.

"The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett" has been on my turntable and ipod since Tuesday and I have played nothing else but it. A return to the mellow with gentle acoustic ballads, piano and string orchestration. Apparently these songs were written around the same time as "End Times" but he dee...

Re: Here Kitty, Nice Kitty Cat

Regarding predators...bobcats and coyotes are very common where we live (as are hawks, eagles and owls). Mainly because Portland is built within a forest and there are also many other animals immediately at our doorstep (especially raccoon's and skunks). I respect but don't feed the wild life mainly...

Can of worms?
Yep probably. Especially considering how many people listed them in the "Sacred Cows" thread.
