Re: Spacemen Pod

Just wanted to pop in and say I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to all the episodes of this so far. Wonderfully in-depth and well-informed discussions!

American Levitation Co. - "Shine" (FFO: JAMC, VU, Spacemen, Spz, etc.)

Hi all! Posted a bit here some years ago before I lost track (I even thought the forum disappeared for a while? But that was probably just me disappearing..). Hope a bit of shameless self-promoting is not against forum rules or too frowned upon -- if it is, don't hesitate to delete the post after sc...

Re: Hey Jane / Album Art (Pitchfork)

see the last few pages  Oh, right! That's what I get for storming in, assuming people around here won't have heard of fairly obscure swedish acts.. As I said, I'm certainly not convinced this is a conscious homage/lift on Jason's part, but if it was, I don't think Silverbullit ha...

Re: Hey Jane / Album Art (Pitchfork)

I first heard "Hey Jane" today. I liked it, especially the second part. It instantly struck me how similar the second part is to the song "Joy" by the swedish band Silverbullit (known in the US as "Citizen Bird" for trademark reasons apparently) - the song is available ...

Re: Pink Mountaintops

It's definitely a lot more lush and layered in sound than the previous two albums. More melancholy as well. Album of the year for me so far, by quite some margin. (I also agree that their first album is very unimpressive.. love "Axis of Evol" though)

Thanks for sharing this, great bootleg.. I love the audience reaction to "Lay Back In The Sun", anyone on the board feel like owning up to that one?

Re: Euro Autumn Dates

I just found out support on the Swedish dates will come from the excellent IKONS. They play largely instrumental drone rock, pretty traditional stuff in the early Spacemen/Loop style but really good IMO. http://www.myspace.com/1kon5 .. Just when I thought I couldn't look forward to the Gothenburg gi...

Re: Setlist wonderings

As a massive fan of the mighty Let It Come Down album I would hope so as well, but On Fire sounded poor live when it was on the setlist a few years ago - the arrangement was far to simplified into chord progressions, without the nuance of the superbly produced album version. I really don't think th...

Re: Setlist wonderings

On Fire I can't for the life of me figure out why they haven't already included this as it seems perfect for the current lineup, with the backup singers and all. Also I don't think it's too much to ask for that LICD is represented by at least one song ("Lord Can You Hear Me" doesn't reall...

Spiritualized on Letterman

Surprised no one's commented on this yet (or did I just miss it?) considering it's on tomorrow (August 5th). Hope this goes up online somewhere and thought this might be a good place for a link if anyone could provide one.

Re: Spritualized concert streaming live tomorrow on NPR.org

Look what they've done to 'Walkin' With Jesus' - it's now a country-soul-blues shuffle! Yeah, that was awesome. They've really picked up a song that had almost literally been done to death and breathed new life into it! This version is in my book second only to the "Out of It" demo with t...

Re: The Joshua 3

I love LOOP, think they're hugely underrated and overlooked. The Spacemen 3 comparison is inevitable I guess - especially given the historical circumstances - but ultimately I think the differences were crucial. The Spacemen to me always felt like they were grounded in the blues, some kind of earthy...

I think I read somewhere that Suicide was the main influence when he did "Nebraska". I'm not a Springsteen fan, haven't heard the record (maybe I should?) so I couldn't tell.

Re: Last five albums/lp's you bought?

1st Voices album is realy good too - arrived yesterday. Some really haunting Jason-esque stuff and some real thumpers too. The Voices are excellent.. The first album sports (at least) a blatant rip-off of almost Spacemenesque proportions - "Take The Pain Away" = "Lord Can You Hear Me...
