saw them on Sunday night in Birmingham. no equipment problems, not shambolic, a pretty tight set all told. I'd put the show in the "good but not amazing" category personally. they mainly emphasised the droney rocky part of their sound which was positive, the more kitsch poppy ones just in there as a...

Yeah nice, shorter intro and the solo goes straight into a last chorus. Didn't blow me away to be honest, but think that might be due more to the TV mix taking a bit of life out of it. Thought Jason's singing was nice and nuanced though. Best bit was Doggens solo, you get a nice look at it too.. Any...

Re: Stereolab - where to start?

£25 per chance? That`s the price up here anyway, seems a bit steep yeah, but just enough for you to stomach it, quite fancy it but its clashing with Mrs M`s birthday, need to see if I can work around that before its sold out, Yep same price here. With fees you're looking at £30 which is borderline ...

Re: Stereolab - where to start?

got a ticket for the Birmingham show, thought the price was a bit steep but that seems par for the course these days with any 'name' act not a major fan or anything but still keen to see them. I watched some live footage on youtube and when they decide to really pin down the beat and rock it sounds ...

Re: Playing With Fire - Quietus article

agree that it's good to hear Jason talk about Spacemen 3 a bit more openly.

Playing With Fire is still the dogs bollocks. no one else was making music this minimalist and by turns it totally rocks as well as the really dreamy moments.

Re: RIP Mark Hollis

not much to add rather than echo the above. he made much sublime music that was pretty indefinable. Laughing Stock and the self titled album are superb, but Spirit of Eden is the one for me. I wonder if there is any music in the vault? I always hoped there would be some kind of comeback or even an i...

Re: Drone Rock Records Interview

Great interview Ads, interesting to hear how it all works and amazing to think how it developed just from the whim of that first release.
your passion comes across in the effort you put into each release, I love the coloured versions which match the actual sleeve.

Perhaps you are not anti Yank Olan
I'm pretty much anti-everyone at the moment. We try to avoid discrimination though. Everyone and everything can do one atm.

I guess you could call that equal opportunities grumpiness? 😊

Trail of Dead @Art School, Glasgow. The "Madonna 20 years anniversary tour" certainly did nothing to make me feel any younger, but I was super stoked for this, as that's my favourite ToD album I was lined up to see this show too in Birmingham but didn't make it in the end. It's my favourite album o...

Also got to add my love for Murray Street. It features some of my favourite SY songs. Can't really remember Sonic Nurse or Rather Ripped but I loved The Eternal. Caught them live on that tour, where they played all but one tune off it, and they were superb. If you like Murray Street, I can't see yo...

Re: What gigs have you just been to?

Went to see The Delines last night at the Unitarian Church in Liverpool. Utterly phenomenal gig. I can understand why Willy Vlautin rates Amy Boone's voice so highly. They even used the pipe organ in the church for the live debut of 'I'm just a ghost' as part of their encore. Very highly recommende...
