Re: What gigs have you got coming up?

Glad you both enjoyed Yo La Tengo chaps (even if only the music bits Runcible). As I said I've generally found their live form pretty patchy. Some of the big jams can be great and sometimes they come across well, but other times they just sounded weak or sloppy. The exception was the acoustic show I...

Re: NEW RIDE

Had a first listen to the album, have to say it didn't do much for me. Still could be a grower however, I at least owe them a few more listens (one of my fave bands after all). Part of the problem is the production, I hope they change producer next time and get some grit back. and some oomph in Loz'...

Interested to hear what YLT were like. as I've said elsewhere on the board, I've always found them fairly disappointing as a live act. strangely though the exception was the acoustic show I saw them do- not sure if this 'Freewheelin' setup is also stripped down? 'Clouds of Saint Marie' didn't really do much for me I'm afraid, they seem to be bringing out their inner jangly indie kid on some of these songs, but this one wasn't as convincing as Future Love at all.

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Loving the new Ride song, "Future Love". dkMevwrVPEc This song hasn't blown me away but it's still pretty nice, like certain parts of Charm Assault you can definitely tell they have been listening to Diiv :) some nice jangly guitar, dreamy harmonies and a good melody. wouldn't mind something with a...

Re: current project

yes ethereal is a good way to describe the vocals, I think that's what makes it stand out from other alt rock bands, where they usually might have a more gruff fella up front. I like the way that the melodies kind of float across it too. so well done Dave!
the lead guitarist is no slouch either is he!

Re: Losing Touch with my Mind Comp

love me a boxset, these are often not good for my bank balance though. it's really a good way to cover a certain period in time, some bands are really obscure, or were only really good for one great single (nothing wrong with that). or of course less obvious choices from more well known acts.. it's ...

Re: Atomos a Winged Victory for the Sullen

I believe myself and fellow Outpatients saw these play at the ATP festival a few years back, it was a nice chilled break from the other acts. big fan of Stars of The Lid, it's proper beautiful minimalist stuff, I don't think you can really go wrong with them. sometimes it's just one note fading in a...

Re: What gigs have you just been to?

Is this Papercuts from San Francisco? If it is I remember they had an album called 'You Can Have What You Want'. I saw them live about 10 years ago. Can't remember whether it was here or while I was on holiday in San Fran. yep pretty sure that's the one, I really liked their set. I always try to ca...

Re: What gigs have you just been to?

I also saw Steve Gunn (Saturday night at the Hare & Hounds, Birmingham) and agree with everything you said Runcible. definitely gig of the year so far. He's a really talented guitar player, his playing is always immaculate with not a single note out of place. In the live arena he really likes to cut...

Re: New Interview - blocked in EU

the album with the "epidural" would have been Amazing Grace right?

it does seem that the band's records are better when they incubate for as long as possible :)

Re: Liverpool Psyche Fest

Yeah, sure why not? Catching up with the incrowd was too much of a pull! Something to look forward to anyways. I can't imagine them coming back with a lame lineup. But, yes, it is a gamble at this stage. you make a good case! it would be a shame if they came back with a weak lineup.. after ha...
