Saw them at the Leadmill in Sheffield on Friday night. Third time I've seen them, and whilst nothing has come close to the first time I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester (where they were so in control of their sound, and would almost at will and seemingly telepathically veer off from whateve...

Re: The Byrds : Younger Than Yesterday : vinyl transfer

Dug my Byrds albums out after reading this thread. Man, it's been years since I played them, and I'd forgot how great they are! 5D, Younger Than Yesterday, Notorious Byrds Brothers and Sweetheart Of The Rodeo have been on heavy rotation 'round my yard this past week. Wasn't born to follow, 5D and Wh...

Re: Leeds: as it happens

No glass throwing from me. Smiling and hugging people i didn't know and shouting "yeah!!!" a lot were the sum total of my sins. I did get told off for talking too loudly though by a very friendly woman who I subsequently had a nice natter with, sharing old spacemen gig experiences. I was h...

Re: Leeds: as it happens

Brilliant gig, and can only agree with all the positive comments made by others. It was great to hear some (recently) less played tunes getting an airing, and the way Jason and Doggen attacked their guitars was a thing of beauty! They sounded like a well drilled unit, and were really tight. Loving t...

They are playing the Brudenell Social Club. Without doubt the best venue in the North of England.
Fantastic PA, great size/shape, great beer and always a fine, friendly atmosphere. Well worth travelling to!

Also, Martha Reeves playing the nex...

WOW!! Right now, I can't remember experiencing such a euphoric, positive music event. It genuinely brought tears to my eyes, and with so much at stake they delivered in spades! Reni and Mani were almost telepathic in their ability to keep the groove going, wherever it was going, John Squire reminded...

Re: Adam "MCA" Yauch,RIP.

Truely sad, sad news indeed. Kinda thought he was getting the better of his illness, but it really is the nastiest of diseases. I hope he didn't suffer too much, and that if he did, he has now found peace. He always struck me as a genuine, peace-loving, inclusive human being, as well as an absolutel...

Re: Mastering/Pressing

Just spent a very happy hour listening again to the album, and just can't really hear the issues many are concerned with. I've got the white vinyl (which was absolutely caked in crud, and took several cleans and wet plays to get rid of), but to my ears it sounds absolutely blinding! I just aren't he...

Old thread bump! Recently suffered a house break-in and had my computer nicked, taking with it loads of music. Not good. Re: where did you come in?

Saw the Spacemen at Hull Adelphi in the summer of 1989, in the middle of my GCSE's, and took a huge amount of flack from my parents for going out when I should have been revising. Damn, that was a looong time ago! They opened a musical door for me, and I've never looked back since. Many thanks go ou...

D'oh! (mebbe I should dig it out and give it a listen again!)

No arguments with psych guitar heroics; you just can't beat 'em!

I just really love Dungen and all their varying influences. One of my favourite contemporary bands.

Yeah, great band IMHO. It's Reine Fiske and Johan Holegard, the guitarist and drummer respectively, from Dungen. Not heard this one, so thanks for the link, but try and get a hold of the s/t first album and Wait For A Light To Come. Both really good albums, on a folk/psych rock kinda tip. And gotta ...

Parson Sound - "India (Slight Return)" Top quality '66-'67 early drone/psych/free jazz shit from Sweden. Highly recommended stuff from those that went on to form International Harvester and Trad, Gras Och Stenar. Never recorded an album at the time, but played at an Andy Warhol installatio...

The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet.

God dang it really is a fantastic album. This, and the rest up to Exile are pretty damn faultless, and allows me to forgive everything they've been doing for the past 35 years. And I reckon they're all better than anything The Beatles ever did.

This band could quite well be my favourite of the past couple of years.
Had the privilege of seeing them in Manchester earlier in the month, and they quite literally blew my mind. Managed to chat to them afterwards, and are lovely Swedish dudes, to a man.
