Spiritualized influence on The Smile's Walls of Eyes album.

Under our Pillows melds Symphony Space, Electric Mainline (live) and the noisier free jazz elements of LAGWAFIS.

Great album so far.

Re: Spaceman Reissue Program: Volume 2 (Amazing Grace Reissue)

I always put the vocal change on LICD down to 2 things. 1. The making of LICD was probably the longest time since the mid 80s where he wasn't performing live as often and therefore not singing on a regular basis. After all the time spent scoring and then recording the record, in addition to getting ...

Haha. Made me laugh. Oddly I think it's Pete Kember who looks the most youthful, fit and well or if any of the ex Spacemen 3 people. Maybe the drugs do work for him. I'm not a fan so much of the reunion now. It was when a friend pointed out that people were clapping along to Heroin that it really hit most. They're very slick versions of the originals, given the Lou Reed 'rock' treatment but without any of the edge that made them good, in my opinion. It's good b...

More interesting is the stuff on Jason’s guitar sound in that other mag!
I really hope they've provided a full tab for the outro of Electricity

Re: "Everything was beautiful" - New Spiritualized® Album 2022

Also very curious to know what this recording for a radio station is all about? Also mad respect for Poppy for working in the NHS rather than going for an arty media job like many children of rock stars. Hoping they've prerecorded a live session that will be released when the album comes out. I saw...

The article doesn't explain who Poppy is until much later than this sentence appears.

Re: Ranking the Albums

Not to toot my own horn, but I happened upon a stereogum article today that ranked the first seven Spiritualized albums. https://www.stereogum.com/1368561/spiritualized-albums-from-worst-to-best/photo/ It would be interesting to see where folks would rank albums 8 and 9. For myself I've come to the...

Re: "Everything was beautiful" - New Spiritualized® Album 2022

I'm really conflicted. I want to hear the album, but I'd rather wait until I have the physical release in my hand. Having heard Amazing Grace when it leaked, it's never really registered as a 'proper' album for me, even though I bought the CD when it was eventually released. I've considered having ...

Re: Jason Pierce and Lenny Kaye in Conversation

Also weird to see Jason give props to the Beatles- I always assumed he was indifferent to them, or at the very least didn't want to be seen to worship them like certain bands who were big back in the 90s.

Re: "Everything was beautiful" - New Spiritualized® Album 2022

Fantastic record. People who weren't thrilled by "Crazy" will be thrilled to note that it's an outlier, and that other than "Let it Bleed" (which is sort of Let it Come Down-ish, a ballad with a banging chorus), it's . . . loud. Lots of horns, lots of Kraut-y grooviness, lots of...

Re: "Everything was beautiful" - New Spiritualized® Album 2022

If the touring starts in March, they'll be playing new material to crowds who haven't heard it yet. I know they did that for a while in the 2010's but then decided they didn't like doing that and so stopped. Maybe putting the album out on stream/download/CD would fix that. The artist's call though, ...

Re: Richard Ashcroft pulls out of Tramlines Festival

He played that extremely boring acoustic version of BSS that feels longer than Apocalyse Now . Never once mentioned the Verve. Apparently he wrote BSS all by himself. Space and Time and Lucky Man are relegated to average songs with the bland arrangements around them. On top of all that, he seems com...
