Re: Sweet Heart Sweet Light

I love Too Late! Agree Hey Jane is one of Jason's best tracks and So Long is excellent too. I Am What I I am...is nearly a great song. Just doesn't seem to go anywhere so it always sounds semi finished to me. Overall... definitely better than the two albums that came before it, but not as strong as ...

Can..where to start?

I've been listening to a bit of Can for the first time on youtube (couple of live recordings plus peel sessions). I've been enjoying it and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for where I might start with their back catalogue?

Thanks! James

Naming instruments used on albums

I've always been fascinated by Jason and Sonic naming the exact instruments they've used on specific albums in the sleeve notes. I guess it helps that the names of the instruments themselves are so evocative...Vox Starstreamer etc. Do any other artists do this? Where does it come from?

I was at the Belfast gig too...and loved it! Ok, so I was only able to go at the last minute and I've not seen them since the SHSL date at Manchester Academy which was years back, so I was thrilled just to be there... Having said that the first two songs off the new album felt very leaden but things...

Used to love Wilco...but not bought an album since Sky Blue Sky which was ok. They now just feel like another 'big' rock band...dull and pretentious. Still this thread has persuaded me to listen to A Ghost is Born for the first time in ages - had forgotten how great it is. And how amazing Jeff's gui...

Re: Songs in A&E - the greatest Spiritualized album ever

So...I think it's a pretty solid album but not outstanding. Some great songs (Soul on Fire, Sweet Talk, Borrowed You Gun, Death Take...) but what really irks me about this realease is the vocals. Anyone who went to the acoustic gigs knows Jason can sing properly but here he puts his croaked/weary bl...

Re: First Impressions of Songs In A&E (spoiler alert)

I agree, first listen and it feels a bit dull bar a few great tracks others have mentioned. J has his wounded/weary bluesman voice on quite a few tracks and he sounded a lot better on some of the recent live bootlegs than on this.

Interesting $26,according to this http://www.thewonder.co.uk/select.htm some of the pics in the new MM book were on the original LP although they are not specific about which... In any event I agree there are no real traces of the Television sound upon SP3 at all really so this is all mindless fancy...

The Cover of Perfect Prescription and Marquee Moon

My aging copy of Marqueen Moon is a bit knackered so I bought a 'gatefold' style CD reissue for £5 the other day complete with an insert full of photos and text. Some of the photos may have appeared with the original LP release. Anyway, some of the photos are very much like that of Perfect Prescrip...

As a combination has to be Verlaine and Lloyd...

Seeing them play Call Mr Lee live last night was insane...Patti Smith's band were totally lumpen in comparison.

Other current favourites include Jeff Tweedy (his playing on the last Wilco album is great)

The Blow Up

Has anyone got this - the Television live recording? I've heard one track off it years ago (Friction) and the quality was pretty poor. Has this been rectified on the newer version that is for sale via Amazon at a rather steep £18.99?

Any verdict?

Naming Instruments on album sleeves

have any other bands gone to the lengths to name specific instruments used in making albums on the album sleeves..or is it just a SP3/SPZ thing?

Anyone know they they do it...maybe they just like using evocative names of things like Vox Starstreamers....
