It's a great, worthwhile book. The writing can be pretentious, especially with the frame/conceit of the "dreamweapon" for the narrative, but tons of information I'd never heard before. Maybe Robert Caro will take on the Spacemen when he's done with Lyndon Johnson.

Re: 2013

I don't know who else still follows him but it appears that Richard Ashcroft will release an album later this year. Even his worst albums have had their gems, I think, so I anticipate at least a few good songs even if a consistent album seems forever out of reach. Black Submarine have promised a fil...

Re: Tell me about.. Miles Davis

Live/Evil was the first jazz record I ever owned. My mother bought it for me for a dollar at a yard sale, not knowing what it was but assuming it was a greatest hits or something. And to this day I have an aversion to that period of Miles Davis' career. Not that I am hugely informed, only a dabbler,...

Re: New flaming lips album

i thought their anthem-years were good, i think TSB is especially superb. Yoshimi much less so. Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Beady Eye - Wigwam Good psychedelic track. All things considered Beady Eye has been better than I expected. I've continued listening to a lot of the Beady Eye album. At the time I assumed it was Oasis album retreads by numbers, but it's clear that Liam & co. had something to prove. There are a lot ...

Re: Lil B - Open Thunder Eternal Slumber (SLOWDIVE SAMPLE)

Hip-hop and rap are a genre that I have a tough time with. Every now and again, an artist I like will have a guest rapper on a track and I can dig it (for example, Four Tet's "A Joy" or the Neon Neon tracks from Stainless Style with rappers on them), but whenever I hear stuff by the genre's big act...
