Re: Michael Head And The Red Elastic Band,

Saw him live last year... brilliant night.

Some very OTT fawning behaviour from a few attendees...wittily dealt with by MH.

Re: Spaceman Reissue Program: Volume 2 (Amazing Grace Reissue)

The version of Run from the Fibbers show (York) is brilliant... I didn't notice any vocal issues on the AG tour but it was very ragged in parts an album or two later, esp on Sitting on Fire. Although I always thought that style of delivery was deliberate (and ridiculous) rather than natural 'wear an...

Re: Spaceman Reissue Program: Volume 2 (Amazing Grace Reissue)

Yes...went to a couple of great gigs from the AG tour. From memory very stripped back band so no backing singers etc. And featured an extended 'This Little Life...' with a mid-section jam/prolonged guitar tinkering Not a huge fan of the album but play it more than the follow up (Songs from A&E) ...

Re: Creation 20+ years later

I'm about 100 pages onto the book so far...the Mary Chain are just getting going. I found the early parts of the book which is about the music / indie scene in general rather than Creation / Alan McGee tough going but it's picking up now...

Re: Velvet Underground reunion

Saw them at Glastonbury 1993. Didn't have high expectations so wasn't terribly disappointed. My mate (also a Spiritualized obsessive at that point) was more geared up for it than me. Beforehand, I told him that Spiritualized would blow them offstage the following night and there'd be no comparison ...

Velvet Underground reunion

Did anyone on here go to these gigs in 1993? I wasn't really into the VU then but I bought the live CD and had a VHS recording of the gig which I played endlessly. It didn't really feel like a band, more like a Lou Reed solo gig with the other members backing him. And the folky weirdness of the firs...

Re: The Dylan Thread

At the risk of sounding like an utter cheapskate...the 2xCD version is £25 consisting of a remastered version of the album (already have the original so I'm not really interested in that) plus disc 2 which is 12 alternative versions/tracks that didn't make the original release. So from my perspectiv...

Re: Tom Verlaine RIP

Thanks for that MrBadger. I only saw them once myself, think it was 2016 something like that. Unfortunately Richard Lloyd long gone but Jimmy Rip doing a fine job. There was no stage presence at all and Toms voice was pretty sketchy. But i was just there to hear them play, and i really enjoyed. I t...

Re: Tom Verlaine RIP

Saw Television twice... First at Manchester in the early 2000s, supporting Patti Smith (should have been other way round). They started with an utterly mesmerising warm up...I can still remember the amazing clarity and sharpness of his tone (and Richard Lloyd's) when they started playing. This gig w...

Anyone can play guitar is great. Adrian does lots of cool lessons...VU, Joy Division, Neil Young to name a few. You can pay on Patreon for tabs. Highly recommended.

Re: What gigs have you just been to?

Bob Mould in Belfast on his Solo Electric tour. Bounded into the stage, cranked out a few deafening chords and played the first few songs back to back without pausing for breath. A nice mix of Husker Du, Sugar and solo stuff. Amazing energy. Witty banter. Very cool guitar tone. Also the first time I...

Re: Dublin May 7 2022

James is my name.... Yeah I noticed there was some hilarity at the start of So Long...not something you often see at a Spz gig. I didn't think the sound overall was great - the 3rd guitarist (an indie rock version of David Baddiel) seemed inaudible too. I only noticed the girl at the end of the gig ...

Re: Dublin May 7 2022

Welllllllll....I really enjoyed it. This was my first gig (and outing to a 'big city') for a few years and I was just glad to be there. Bar the new songs the setlist was almost the same as when they played Belfast a few years back. Like others on here I'd prefer some older songs in the mix (and the ...

Fibbers, York -2004

Who was there for this?! I came across the (CD) bootleg of the show recently so have had it on in the car... From memory there was a draw for tickets for the evening gig...but the number of entries was so big (I didn't get a ticket) they did a shorter set late afternoon too. Very small venue (now cl...

Re: Spiritualized: funny moments

I would never describe Spz as a funny band but J strikes me as someone with a good (if quite dark) sense of humour. My favourite is from the liner notes of 'Ladies and Gents' where the credits for conducting the choir are allocated to the 'Irreverend J. Spaceman and the Reverend Basil Hughes'. Any ...
