'Samalas' by Mote. Fantastic guitar psych from Melbourne. Recommended by the good folks from the Psych Lovers group on Facebook. It's as good as everyone said. I've had it on rotation for a few days now.

Worth noting that this excellent comp features our own Muscles, who died in tragic circumstances in 2017, on Majesty Crush's 'No 1 Fan'. I certainly used to think that. A lot of music I love was discovered at a younger age. Well - 1979 for example, when I was 14. A key era was the late 80s when I was around 23, 24. Spacemen 3 hit me then. But I was 43 when I got I to the Grateful Dead and I've been obsessed with a lot of their music ...

The one thing I wouldn’t agree with Runcible on is The Damned LP. I would put Unknown Pleasures and Metal Box in joint first place. Fair enough but that Damned album is a totally subjective choice. New Rose City Band tunes are sounding great. A neat country rock angle is noticeable here, with the 2nd tune tipping a hat to the Grateful Dead's classic 'Cumberland Blues'. But Ripley is something of a Deadhead so perhaps not too surprising.

Re: Albums of the Year?

My 2 cents... A few nuggets this year. Steve Mason, Deerhunter and Steve Gunn all releasing albums on the same day was an interesting twist. Album of the year for me is: Steve Gunn – Unseen Inbetween It delivered everything I wanted from it. And the show I saw to support it's release was the best of...

Re: Let me harp on about Ween

Agree with all that. But Mr Richard Smoker?! I love that song! Got the live in Toronto too. And the Chicago DVD. Cucharacha took a while to grow on me but it did. There's also a terrifying amount of outtakes & the like on Browntracker. Spinola vol 1 1/2 & vol 2 etc. Love that band... Great artwork t...

An infectious & enveloping series of driving rhythms made by Ripley’s wonderful guitar peels and Sanae’s synth and keyboard sounds, all po...

RIP Neal Casal

I just read the shocking news that Chris Robinson Brotherhood's guitarist Neal Casal has died, aged just 50.

This is pretty awful to hear anyway as he was so young, but a really nice guy by all accounts, a very good photographer and one hell of a guitar player too.

So sad.
