It's cool about the back-up singers being local talent, but who are all of these other people in the band? Other than J. (obviously) and Doggen, I don't recognize a single member of the band... That's not Kid Millions on the drums, is it?

I've read both, but it's been ages since I read Shakey... Waging Heavy Peace is pure, unfiltered Neil Young, so you can expect a lot of rambling, personal passages and recollections, whereas Shakey is written by someone else and is a little more formulaic chronological, as I recall. I always thought Spread Your Love by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was a pretty obvious homage to early Spiritualized. Along with much of Howl, which kind of feels like latter day gospel/blues-oriented Spiritualized.

Wow! Perhaps this would result in something a little more akin to what he did on the first two Spiritualized albums - more expansive songs, phases, drones, etc.

Hopefully he doesn't mean to explore dubstep or another one of the more "unlistenable" sub-genres.

Re: Australia

This is very cool - I'm going to be in Australia for the holidays... Hopefully they play a non-festival show in or around Sydney!!! When can we expect more info?

Also hoping to catch Fleet Foxes on the same trip!

Re: forth special edition

I can kind of see why people are disappointed with this album and disillusioned with the reunion as a whole, especially after all of the scuttlebutt about it being a return to their earlier sound, the promise of the Thaw Sessions, etc... But after my umpteenth listen, I have to say that I think it's...

Re: Osheaga!

Yeah, I forgot about Doggen's bemused look/point as he walked by. That was pretty funny at the time! It was good to relive that whole song - what a great end to their little festival set! Thanks Simon! Speaking of Doggen, he seems like a really nice, unassuming guy. When I spoke with Kevin briefly a...

Re: Mogwai and Mercury Rev album previews...

Personally, I can find a lot of "meat" on the record and I think it's going to show itself to be a pretty rewarding listen over time - not sure about career defining, but certainly a stylistic stand-out (well, so far at least.) I'm curious to see what's on the companion Strange Attractor ....

Re: Mogwai and Mercury Rev album previews...

Well, I've listened to the new Mercury Rev album Snowflake Midnight a couple of times now and I'm feeling a little stunned. It's definitely a change of pace and direction for the band, but I don't know if it's an entirely welcome one... yet. Time will tell! They've certainly embraced their more spra...

Re: spiritualized at pitchfork

Even though it's only going to be a shortened festival set, the version of Shine A Light alone is making me very, very anxious for Osheaga!! Awesome! The female backing vox do sound pretty cool!
