You forget 'Who's Next' as a fantastic reissue with the alternate take of 'Behind Blue Eyes'.
As far as the 1st 4 tracks from Friendly Fire are concerned they really deserve their own release, in my humble opinion, with the opening version of 'I Want You' as the main attraction!

Agree that Joel looked high on something in just about every shot, but he was the one that managed to get them a record deal after Anton characteristically fucked-up the previous meeting...quite good for a tamborine player. I thought the Dandy's bloke's narration was interesting - he seemed to try a...

Worst thing about The Smiths for me was the weird Morrissey wannabes they attracted. Though just too young to see them live, I saw Morrissey several times and was rather disturbed once by a gathering outside Newcastle City Hall stage door before a gig, where a collection of look-a-likes (I use the t...

I just found the CD version on eBay for £30...is this rarer than the vinyl or is the seller vastly over-valuing it? Pretty sure I paid around £5 for mine.

Totally agree about the Beatles sound - pure George Harrison, carefully picking some well chosen notes to tie things up nicely.veep23 wrote:I LOVE the guitar ending too! I don't know who Chris Rea is but to me it has a real late Beatles guitar sound. That is what I hear at the end of Lay It Down Slow.

Re: Bardens Heads etc...
LOL Bardens apparently has a new booker who is looking at a more Avante Garde selection of acts, apparently The Early Years are playing there soon and man The Heads!! Worth checking their listings once in a while I reckon. The Early Years are well worth seeing and have an album coming out in a few ...

Re: Let It Flow cover
Remember when that guy posted a year or so ago about putting out a Spiritualized covers album? Well, we wound up doing one for the hell of it. I had a feeling it wouldn't really happen. Anyway, someone ought to hear it, I guess. I'm really happy with it: http://www.sendspace.com/file/sa5t5x The War...

Quite a coincidence that the best 2 gigs in Newcastle of 2006 will probably be Acoustic Mainlines with BJM the next day! If they are as good as I thought they were at Koko earlier this year I'll be quite happy. Then the Saw Doctors are playing Newcastle City Hall on 5th December, but the acoustics i...

Fans of Can might appreciate an up and coming band called The Early Years who by coincidence released their 2nd single So Far Gone last week. The combination of krautrock-type beats with Spacemen-like guitar sounds excellent and quite refreshing compared to their Monkeys-esque peers. There's a debut...

I was so disappointed with the sound quality on the Hoping DVD. As long as all the source material is there I'm sure one day some benevolent engineer will give us a decent surround sound mix, or even just a properly mixed stereo one like the BBC managed for Glastonbury. Presumably the quality issue...

I bought one privately from the same bloke selling on eBay - the concert is ok but the promos mostly SM3 but a few others, especially the outstanding 'How You Satisfy Me' (surely Sonic's finest work?) have far better sound quality so you notice a big difference when listening through decent kit.
