There is no necessary correlation between the event you describe above, and the concept of high end audiophile playback - whether you're involving vinyl or some more linearly accurate playback medium. How big is this room? What are its acoustic properties? How many attendees do you expect? If you ne...

I would expect the simplest answer is that such events will vary on whether they are run by sales people or impartial enthusiasts. To be honest I've only ever heard of events described as per above, that had some relationship with sales. A particularly notorious and disreputable company is called Ru...

Compared to their usual lists, that's pretty good I think. Much as I love Syd Barrett's 1st and 2nd solo albums, neither is better than Piper. Love that they've given credit to albums often overlooked - Let it Come Down is vastly underrated, I think it's a better album than LAGWAFIS. Also great to s...

As already noted that's an awful setlist. Just to add, who'd have thought Soul On Fire would reappear in the live set? Re: Leeds Cockpit closes

I can't recall the exact details now, but when I got the press release from the Music Venue Trust a few days ago, specific mention was made of a new or re-purposed existing venue which would host gigs courtesy of the promoters who had previously used Leeds Cockpit. I can't remember the name, but it ...

Re: Scottish Referendum

Actually the "Yes" campaign are starting to edge ahead by 1 - 2 % points in the most recent polls, so it's getting a bit close for comfort! I live in the north, with close family from/living in Scotland, so as an issue it potentially affects me. If I were a naive and playful 16 - 18 year o...

Re: ATP/Jabberwocky Festival

The problem is they already went bust (i.e. bankruptcy, receivership) a few years ago, owing money left right and centre. They then relaunched as a new entity, with support from bigger players like Primevera (sp?) and others - presumably to give reassurance to folks who got badly burned by the colla...

Re: ATP/Jabberwocky Festival

I would have agreed about the "dumb", but now I see ATP promoting at least one gig this weekend with one of the headline acts ... plus the Dash refund debacle, who'd trust them now? ...but whoever thought that was a good festival venue - very dumb, especially when we know it wasn't even th...

Re: ATP/Jabberwocky Festival

I first heard of this on a consumer rights programme this lunchtime on Radio 4. Obviously the nature of the show influences the tone of the reporting, but hearing that not just punters but bands due to play, had made the pre-requisite travel arrangements (and cleared their schedules) for this event ...

Re: Primal Scream/Spiritualized joint gig at Brixton Academy

I'm sure this was a great show, but has anyone watched the DVD? utter pants. the sound is flat as a pancake. crazy that it's been 10 years since the Amazing Grace tour... a decade since I saw the band at Glastonbury! damn I'm getting old.. That Glastonbury 2004 slot, headlining the new bands (now J...

Re: New JAMC reissues

Whilst I'd love to collect the vinyl for posterity, unfortunately financial circumstances prevent me from indulging.

However I am interested in CDs, if there are new remasters - the online information is hard to navigate, to put it mildly.

Re: Primal Scream/Spiritualized joint gig at Brixton Academy

Wow ... what an emotive thread to resurrect! Reading posts from Adrian after all this time has brought tears to my eyes. Around 2004 we were sending CDs back and forth and exchanging lots of emails - many concerning the new hifi he'd just bought, and his particular dissatisfaction with the record pl...
