Gave it a spin today, possibly the best thing Gnod have done, they seem to be getting more consistent. Either that or their quality control has been considerably tightened up in regard to what they release.

Bear in mind that most bands only play 3 or 4 songs, so you'd have to ask yourself is it worth the trip? Don't think anyone has ever played a full set at it over the course of the previous nine series.

They supported at Screamadelica in Belfast in August. Also saw them supporting The Aliens and David Holmes in Donegal three years ago. Didn't make much of an impression on either occasion.

No idea Holmes was involved with their album though.

unfortunately I didn't make it to the Birmingham date as I struggled to drum up any interest from my mates I've never understood the attitude of people who won't go to a gig on their own. However, I believe I read that they're likely to do a larger second pressing of Vertigo Swills in the future, so perhaps this first run will have fancier/special artwork and is aimed at the hardcore fans. Second pressing at the end of November with the sleeve reversed (front on back and vice versa).

Angelsighs: I've been getting into Stars of the Lid recently. Great stuff. Let us know what you think of that album. I found Refinement of the Decline a bit of a bore myself, my fave album of theirs would be Gravitational Pull... I found their earlier material to be warmer, less clinical sounding.

I see they've got Gnod supporting them in London. Will be catching them in Dublin for the fifth time i think. Although i'd prefer it if it was AMT & The Cosmic Inferno rather than The Melting Paraiso UFO. Still, should be good anyways.

I'm probably alone on this one but i've never been totally satisfied with Spiritualized's version of TMTTOS over the years. It's good but not amazing. A bit too "rock" rather than the psych-noise tranceout it aspires to be.

I think Amazing Grace era live was about as noisy as they got, and for me that wasn't a very inspiring period. it really is funny how things go - for me that tour/live era was the moment i was hooked on the band! i'd a couple of their albums & enjoyed them & AG but i'd never seen them live....

Well, that was a turn up for the books. Not that they played all the new album but the fact i actually found myself enjoying it! I think you should try the Japanese bands Mainliner and High Rise, might well be what you're after if you want upfront, lo-fi noise. Went to see The Guard a couple of days ago. Brendan Gleeson plays a cop in the west of Ireland and Don Cheadle is an FBI Agent sent over to foil a massive drugs shipment. Very funny, if you liked In Bruges you'll probably enjoy this.

Heard Graham Nash covering Buddy Holly's "Raining In My Heart" on the radio today and i was immediately struck with the idea that Sonic would do such a good version of it.
