Radio Show (KHWS)

Hey peeps. A year or so ago I started an online radio station at my high school -- we now have over 30 DJs, broadcast live 30+ hours a week, and our website recently crossed 60,000 pageviews! Pretty exciting! Running the station takes up a lot of time, but it's a blast. I broadcast Wednesdays at 9 P...

Re: Homemade Tremolo Pedal

Thanks, and yeah it's . Figured I would start with some guidance. I actually am just building a theremin right now! Next pedal I am going to try to build completely from scratch. The etching process doesn't seem too bad at all (I might even just perfboard it), it's the enclosure that seems like it w...

That's cool I didn't know that! Somebody actually just recommended the documentary about Helvetica to me the other night. Have you seen it and/or would recommend it?

Favorite BJM albums?

I've always loved Methodrone and Their Satanic Majesty's Second Request and have played them to death -- I've never really listened to any of the other albums for some reason! Just been so content and happy with those two albums that I felt like I just didn't need to. Have any of you guys had a simi...

I hadn't heard of Sleepy Sun before -- I haven't listened to the others yet, but I've been listening to Embrace and absolutely loving it!! Just wanted to say thanks so much for turning me on to these doods.

Re: White Hills - US Shows 2012

Argh I want to see 'em so badly when they play at the Echo (it's a pretty sweet small venue in Silverlake) here in LA but it's 18+ and I am 17 and don't have a fake. The Echo pisses me off so much they have so many great shows but almost all of them are 18+. I don't get it... I can understand 21+, b...

Anybody else on here see The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye (recent documentary about Genesis P-Orridge/Lady Jaye Breyer)? Just saw it this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it! Same with the Island President and Jiro Dreams of Sushi! Good weekend for documentaries I guess!

I'm 100% convinced that they are taking payola to push fucking Fiona Apple on us right now (has anyone else noticed how many news posts, live reviews, etc. etc. they have posted about her recently?)\ If you feel that way you should read HipsterRunoff's articles about Fiona Apple recently -- they ar...

Homemade Tremolo Pedal

Yo this is my first pedal I've made from scratch (well not totally 'cause I didn't etch the PCB myself, but whatever, I think that's okay for my first time). What should I put on the enclosure? http://i.imgur.com/ERGxH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mm0U7.jpg [sorry when I embedded them a lot of the image g...

Re: Styrofoam Let It Come Down

Yeah that's it. I just said that because it looks like a styrofoam container/that's how it was labelled so thought that might be the sort of name of that edition. I haven't opened it yet but yeah it seems like plastic- that'd be crazy to have it in such nice quality after 11 years if it was made of ...

Re: Music formats - cassettes, vinyl and beyond

yeah, what's the value of a painting that took 30 hours to paint when you can just compose your image in Photoshop and send it off to the laser printer? Oh no.... now we are going to get into a whole aesthetics debate... we could talk endlessly about what is the point of actually painting something...

Re: Music formats - cassettes, vinyl and beyond

This whole 'mixtape' thing is founded on nostalgia or false nostalgia - who would want to sit for hours carefully compiling and editing a tape of songs when you can burn a CD off in minutes? I was blown away the first time I realized the implications of having a CD burner. And all that fast-forward...

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Out of the Eye -- Woods (Sun and Shade)

The whole album is great, as are all of Woods' albums and all albums on Woodsist in my opinion! This track has got a super krautrock-y feel (sorta sounds almost identical to Hallogallo now that I think about it!), most of the album is a bit folk-ier.

Re: Music formats - cassettes, vinyl and beyond

I personally have no problem with any of the formats. I love buying new LPs on vinyl, I love looking through record shops and finding old gems on vinyl. The packaging and the physicality of the music is what makes it so appealing. I think most people on here seem to agree on why they like vinyl/why ...

It's funny, my sister is in college, and pretty much all of her friends might be what one calls 'theater types' if you feel like throwing labels around (one thing is for sure -- none of them really like sports at all/know what the difference is between a first down and a home room... ok maybe that's...

I just watched this and am still processing it. Ironically with all the other noises in the film and the dark subject matter it actually made me focus even more so on the song's lyrics. When he's singin' 'Hey Jane when you gonna die?' during the beating -- that part was such a great match up, -- th...

First time you saw spz/how listening makes you feel

Hey doods -- I only really started listening to Spiritualized in September, but since then I've been listening non-stop. Something about the sound I think I can just incredibly identify with at where I am at right now, being your typical angsty 17 year old. Just sort of drowning yourself out in it. ...

Your Hand in Mine is the theme song for the opening credits, and yeah lots of stuff is used just sort of as scoring throughout the series. There's also lots of really good music in general throughout the series -- I think the song Devil Town by Bright Eyes (used a few times) sorta captures the serie...

Yeah man it is pretty fantastic. I'm in LA, and so my high school experience is obviously really different.
