Select Magazine archive (Spiritualized articles)

Not sure if this has come up on the board before, but somebody has scanned in a whole bunch of Select magazines from the 90s. I've had a nostalgic time reading back through some of them. It's not a complete archive (and in fact with each issue they've only scanned a few pages) but still great. Fair ...

Tempos - Culto Al Qondor Really loving this, has to be one of my fave Drone Rock Records releases out of the ones I've heard. Kudos to Adam. Re: Best ever year for album releases

I certainly used to think that. A lot of music I love was discovered at a younger age. Well - 1979 for example, when I was 14. A key era was the late 80s when I was around 23, 24. Spacemen 3 hit me then. But I was 43 when I got I to the Grateful Dead and I've been obsessed with a lot of their music...

do you think there's an element of truth to the theory that we connect most strongly to whatever music we discovered in our teens/early 20s? the excitement of youth, that time when we are shaping an identity, etc can make us feel a strong connection. I think there's some truth to it, but having said...

sounds promising, although the theory that it could be something to do with the Spacemen 3 legal stuff could also be true (with a typically dry name for the company!)

if it is a new album, not sure about anyone else but I liked And Nothing Hurt so much, just ANH pt 2 would be fine and dandy.

Given the new Sonic album a few listens now, at this point I have to report that as a whole it’s not blowing me away. I'd also make the case for 1997 myself. lots of established bands either reaching some kind of peak, or new bands coming out with great albums Most years from 1989 to 1997 were pretty solid with stacks of great/classic albums. Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

I know there's at least a couple of other Twilight Sad fans on the board. they've released a live album as 'pay what you want'. properly mixed and sounding powerful, this is no 'just take it straight from the soundboard' jobbie https://thetwilightsad.bandcamp.com/album/it-won-t-be-like-this-all-the-...

Re: Soundtrack of our lives.

yup very interesting to read this thread.. it's good to look back isn't it, and see how your music tastes evolved, what bands lead to other bands etc. if I can muster the energy I will write my version, although I will undoubtedly leave some bands out by mistake :)

Re: Last five albums/lp's you bought?

Never really tried Chris Forsyth but have heard good things about both him and Garcia Peoples. Whats the album like Sighs? I've got a credit note with Norman Records that needs using and was thinking that this might be the album to get. well speaking as a fan it's definitely a cracking live album. ...

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Also, something of a first for me to be accused of being right about anything. Stop that please, it will upset my equilibrium if it happens again.... :) :) there's a quote about a 'stopped clock' which is springing to mind ;) but yeah, definitely a beautiful record. will have to go on the physical ...

[snip]...such as the very rare Maria Kapel which I recall Olan (I think) raving about on the board. [snip]... By far and away favourite SOoA LP and the one I tend to reach for when it is time to listen to them. well Olan you were right about Maria Kapel, it's a beautiful record indeed. it reminds m...

Re: 2020- looking forward to

as per my last post, the Dream Syndicate album is as expected superb. pretty trippy, every song is at least 8 minutes long with repetitive grooves, rippling guitars, and even some jazzy horns. my favourite song is Apropos of Nothing which goes into a very Velvets chug at the end. https://www.youtube...

Re: NEW RIDE

it's interesting that he only listened to the main vocal before doing his arrangements- I guess that makes it much more open in terms of how he might interpret them

had a listen to the preview tracks though and it didn't really do much for me. kudos to them for trying something different though.

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

Jean-Michel Jarre's back catalogue. A guilty pleasure. I once mentioned to Pete K (when he was really getting into modular synths) about how I used to love Jean-Michel Jarre. His look said it all, although I see he is now blending both digital and analogue synths. I've just got to Rendez-Vous, whic...

Re: HD Spritualized set just appeared on UTube.

thanks for the mp3 version! I'm always ready to admit if the band play a lacklustre set (they certainly don't always come across best on video) but I really think this set is excellent. they seem to be at a point in the tour where everything is clicking, and the ANH songs are a nice refreshing chang...
