That new EARTH album?

Post by James T »

They get better I think. Wasn't going to bother with this because I thought it would be more of the same but yet again I love it more than the last... must catch the tour again.

which album is this? is this the earth as in earth 2-special low frequency?
'raging and weeping are left on the early road
now each in his holy hill
the glittering and hurting days are alomst done
then let us compare mythologies
i have learned my elaborate lie
of soaring crosses and poisened thorns'

Thanks for the heads up. I have been eagerly awaiting this for months. One song in and I'm already enthralled. Dylan Carlson paints landscapes with music.

i really love the last two Earth albums- some of the best guitar tones ever or what?

so this new one being vol 1- are there more parts planned?

they also reissued some early stuff recently- the album sleeve is beautiful:

They were given a pretty good Pitchfork rating.

But does it mean anything anymore????

Well, a good Pitchfork review/rating means a huge increase in sales, that's for sure. I listened to this album yesterday. It's cool, but it gets a little old after awhile. I feel like it really starts to drag by the time you're halfway through it. I guess that's just their style, though.

I still have to pick this up--I really liked "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull", and in some ways, it will be difficult to top that one. They're sort of in a bind....there is SO many drone/ fuzz based bands that picked up on Earth's early material, that Earth would now sound regressive if they returned to that early sound......they have to keep on innovating and forging ahead, but it's difficult to really innovate when you're basing your sound around a two or three chord progression for 5 minutes or more. There's only so much you can do.

Absolutely loving this record. Lori Goldston's cello on it is sublime, somehow making it sound both sparser and richer than "Bees..." at the same time.

Dylan Carlson is a fukn genius. His music just keeps evolving and he's a really original guitar player. Earth don't sound like anyone else at all.

Has anyone got the vinyl of "The Bees Made Honey...", out of interest, and would be prepared to upload the bonus track "Junkyard Priest"? I got a copy of "Radio Earth" last week and heard this track for the first time. It's bloody excellent. I'm feeling wounded I didn't buy the vinyl when it came out as it's rare and very expensive now. Cheers.

I'll upload bonus track tonight.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

The zip contains Junkyard Priest from Bees and also the untitled bonus track from the vinyl version of Hex. Both are good quality copys though neither was ripped by me, I found them in a torrent after lots of googling.

Thanks very much for those. I'm particularly enjoying the untitled Hex bonus track. I'm getting Dreamweapon vibes from it, which is only a good thing.

The new album is wonderful. I still haven't fully digested it yet, but the introduction of cello is a masterstroke on Dylan's part.

I like the new album more each time I listen to it.

Glad I'm going to get to see them perform on this tour, though I so hope they play some of the more drone/doom stuff too.

Have seen them twice in the past few years and they steered clear of that stuff.

what are they like live? i see they are playing near me in a couple of weeks and I really like the recent albums but not sure how exciting it would be in a live setting.

Earth 2.23 Special Lower Frequency Mix: https://earthsl.bandcamp.com/album/eart ... quency-mix

A remix album that's actually really good. Remixes from The Bug/Kevin Martin, Robert Hampson (a 30 minuter  ), Justin Broadrick and Brett Nelson. The Bug's mix is the only one with vocals just in case that might put you off proceeding with the rest. Quality release imo. If you're in the mood for it of course!

The Robert Hampson remix is a cracker! I imagine that's what a lot of his Main stuff sounds like
