At last, the Black Ships are making their live debut, hopefully with an album later this year. Exciting stuff!

Re: The Black Ships Set Sail
Finally! I hope we don't have to wait too much longer for the LP. The teaser video was pretty cool.

Hopefully they'll tour later in the year.
The sound clips sound amazing. Hopefully the album will live up to the promise of the vibe from the clips/music.
As a rather geeky aside, vocals by Elly M? Any clues? Isn't Nick McCabe's daughter called Elly?

Yep, it's McCabe's daughter. Apparently she's almost as in to space rock as her old man!
Re: The Black Ships Set Sail
Is that who`s singing? didn`t really like it ,the mix of stuff on the video is interesting but nothing more ,I`ll check out what they do though based on that.jadams501 wrote:Yep, it's McCabe's daughter. Apparently she's almost as in to space rock as her old man!

I think it sounds pretty fantastic. I'm psyched. Been waiting a long time for this.

Any male voice? Not sure what you're getting at, aside from the fact that you don't like McCabe's daughter's voice.scratch wrote:male voice better than the female.. she sounds like.. anyone.. anonymous

Re: The Black Ships Set Sail
you obviously haven´t really listened to the teaser have you? the male voice at 3:20-4:00 and at 4:55-6:31 is what I´m talking about (not sure who it is)TheWarmth wrote:Any male voice? The thread is about the black ships so why would I be talking about something else?
I don´t dislike her voice. It´s not bad - but not particularly good either,. her voice/expression seems to be the weakest link in the chain but I don´t hate it.. just a bit too smooth and lacking character for my taste - papa go buy her a bottle of whiskey!
It´s not like I´m going to skip buying a black ship record just because she isn´t my new fav singer. I really dig the music.

Re: The Black Ships Set Sail
Yeah even as a die-hard Verve fan I'm a little underwhelmed by some of the singing in the video preview. Hopefully the LP will consist more of soundscapes than some the somewhat generic indie pop sounds in the video.

W: What are we supposed to do with that?
M: Eat it.
W: Eat it? Fucker’s alive.
M: Yeah, you’ve got to kill it.
W: Me? I’m the firelighter and fuel collector.

Re: The Black Ships Set Sail
I'm not blown away by that 10min teaser either, it's got some bits that are nice but hardly gobsmacking. suppose it hard to tell from little snippets though.
it sounds a bit like late 90s trip-hop rather than spacerock, and a lot of thats down to the vocalists maybe.
still I have open ears and hope to be blown away when i hear the full pieces. I'll also definitely go and see them live if they play anywhere near me.
