The Men

Post by toomilk »

Another Sacred Bones group that is rocking my world. Just picked up their new release Leave Home today and it is a noisy punky rocker. Highly recommended.

There is one track on the album I should bring to your attention...it's called "()" but it is basically a Spacemen 3 tribute. The song starts out with a Sex Pistols-ish riff and soon gets absolutely crazy. Then a big crash, from which emerges a guitar blasting the two chords to Revolution. Spoken word of the "5 seconds..." bit but the words quickly turn into "Some sensuality I can't explain".....then "Won't you take me for a ride...take me to the other side"......Then back to the raucous riff and the sloppiest, dirtiest guitar solo you've ever heard.

Whew. Great stuff. I can't find the audio on youtube, but here's their Sacred Bones site with the song after "()".

Enjoy

Man that's heavy. Sounds pretty decent though. Is the rest of the album like this?

There are 4 or 5 other tracks like this and a couple slower ones. The album closer is like a sped up Moon Duo backing the singer for Pissed Jeans.

the album is really good except for one track was kinda crappy, not sure of the name. bits and pieces remind me of hardcore punk

A friend saw them in New York last night and said they were fantastic. They played their blistering "( )" song with the Spacemen 3 lyrics.

The Men were excellent in Norwich tonight. Didn't have the new LP for sale but picked up their first.

Real shame Hookworms weren't support though!

Edit - by their first I mean the previous one, Leave Home, not the earlier albums, so not their first in other words....

I got my preorder on Saturday. Not completely blown away on first listen like I was with the last album, but still great. Much dreamier and not as abrasive than the last.

My LP came with a live CD that is worth the price of the LP itself.

Picked up a copy of this in Probe in Liverpool today. It certainly does not have the "F*ck Me!" impact of the debut album. It'll probably need a few plays, but the new White Hills record is currently monopolizing the stereo here.

The Men- hailing from Santa Monica, California- tear into Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop for SXSW 2012 and proceed to destroy some eardrums with a machine gun-rapid succession of jagged, toothy rock songs, Live on KEXP. Fantastic performance. Give a listen! - S. Simkoff
