Wow those look really comprehensive editions. Good prices too.

The first two and Munki would be my favourites and I like a lot of Automatic. The Pixies' cover of Head On from Trompe Le Monde is fantastic.

These are how you do reissues- stuff them to the gills so you get an overview of a particular era in one foul swoop. to be perfectly honest, a lot of music DVDs I only watch once or twice but still nice to have.

I love Psychocandy but everything else I've heard from the Mary Chain leaves me cold (apart from April Skies which is a great song). I see Some Candy Talking has been included on Darklands is that correct? always considered it more part of Psychocandy era (and it was slotted in there on my CD)

these are from the same people that did the recent Suede reissues. from the rave reports of those on this site, that's a good sign.

I think the Verve need a comprehensive reissue campaign like this. that would make me drool.

Probably me that mentioned the re-issues a while back. I shall be buying every one of these even though i have 99.9% of the material already

The big selling point for a lot of fans i think are the DVD's with each album, finally getting to see the videos, tv appearances and interviews in DVD quality rather than fuzzy youtube clips is a real bonus. The guy who put them together seems to be a genuine fan too for whom it was a real labour of love.

There's talk of a package deal been done to buy the lot in one go. More info will be appearing over on the April Skies forum.

I read through the entire thread this morning and can't wait for these to appear... suggested prices sound remarkably reasonable...

Certainly interesting to see all the happy people getting excited over on the April Skies forum. Still, like Niamhm said, didn't all of there albums get the remastered treatment not that long ago? I've got all their albums on original CD's and have seen them a couple of times (once on the immense Rollercoaster tour and the other when they reformed briefly a couple of years ago). I'd say I was a fan, but not a big enough fan to buy thier album all over again, in spite of what looks like an excellent job. Obviously, Psychocandy is a very strong and special album but I've always been a bit partial to Honey's Dead.

hmm good question. it's hard to know, of course there could be stuff we don't even know about.

A Storm In Heaven/Early singles demos have never been heard? dare i say ASIH could do with a tiny remaster too?
a live show in pristine quality from each era would be nice, I think the band recorded a lot of stuff from the soundboard, at least in the latter days.
I have a feeling there's more UH demos to be heard. some songs were mentioned in a MOJO feature I've got (Don't Blame It On The Father?) and This Could Be My Moment came out of nowhere.

really though, as a Verve geek I'd just like all the B sides in one place, the demos in much better quality. and some cool packaging. :)

yeah the verve sorely needs reissues like this

their b-sides have never really been collected before and the ones ive gotten a hold of arent the best quality

would love to hear some of those demos too

Yeah, I'll be be buying every one of these, despite my already owing every goddamn thing they ever released. JAMC are one of my top five favorite desert island groups if not my favorite band of all time. That isn't really a badge of honor around here, what, with all the folks on a thread about re-issuing albums by The Jesus and Marychain talking about how much they need to do the same to the entire Verve catalog. (No, they really don't.) The DVDs will be pretty sweet and, on that note, I wish to hell something would come out on that mythical Acoustic Mainlines DVD we keep hearing about!

I really hope we see Verve remasters, particularly for Storm In Heaven.

There have got to be some demos and alternate takes from the early singles, I would think, and maybe some outtakes like Change My Life and South Pacific. Maybe a few more. I don't think there's a whole lot left from Storm In Heaven because they started with only a few songs and pretty much wrote in the studio. And I'd be inclined to doubt that there's a whole lot of unheard songs because the band was always so dysfunctional. The real treasure trove is probably hours of spacey jams, like the full original 30 minutes of Catching The Butterfly. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there would be much commercial interest in that material.

John Leckie had spoken a number of years ago about working on a box set of Verve rarities. It seemed like the reunion and dissolution put that on the backburner, but I hope eventually some unreleased material sees the light of day. Or that someone in the band leaks it online.

Those Rhino ones were awful! No sound improvements and those fucking double-sided discs?!? They wouldn't play in some CD players and I think they had the dumb copywrite protection stuff on them. The DVD sides were frustrating and looked bad. Rhino has done some great things, but they have also completely fucked up some reissues (e.g. New Order).

only bought the Psychocandy one as it was the only one I didn`t have ,so can`t comment on the rest ,but thought it sounded good and could def. hear some sound improvement ,more detail ,also no double sided disc ,just a bog standard cd,also they dropped Some Candy Talking so back to its original state on release.

yeah i thought the last lot were just straight remasters? no bonus tracks at all.

annoying when I bought my copy of Psychocandy, cause I liked Some Candy Talking so much I got the edition with that on and the mastering was pathetic compared to the same songs on 21 Singles, which sounds much fuller and more powerful. I presume the last remasters came out concurrently with that.

They´ve been around for decades and are owned by warner brothers so not very small.. I have good experiences with their remasters/reissues.

Rhino has been around forever, and I've almost always had great experiences with their products. I get the impression that they are dedicated pop culture fans with a sincere desire to provide excellent products to other dedicated fans. Their reissues of the Monkees albums were great, they've done great work with film soundtracks, and have done some really thoughtful compilations. More power to them.

Having itchy fingers on a slow night I decided to check what prices these Psychocandy and Darklands reissues were going for.
By far Amazon UK was the least expensive. Just over $30 US including postage. Amazon US is $24 each. Some record shops are nearly 16 GBP each.
I passed on Automatic. Never really liked that one at all.

yeah Psychocandy is sounding better than ever. the remastering makes it sound like a new album. the B sides range from okay to great too. it's good to have a whole era of the band in one place
have to say, some of the radio session tracks are a bit naff sounding though

Just ordered my copy of Psychocandy for under a tenner at HMV with 5% back from Quidco. Was shopping in Leeds yesterday and couldn't get it for less than £14.99 (at HMV :!: ) Some places £15.99 :? How does that work :?:

Really enjoying both Psychocandy and Darklands, these are superb re-issues and at under a tenner each a real bargain. How much was the 3 disc LAGWAFIS re-issue :!:
