Spz Wikipedia Page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritualized
I think this needs a lot of work. Spz deserve better, especially as Wikipedia is the first port of call for a lot of people for info
reckon a bunch of us should have a go at giving it a spring clean? this morning I had a tinker with the chart of band members, think it's pretty much right now, but now it's overlapping over the side of the page, anyone know how to fix that?
also this bit is surely wrong?
Following a breakdown in relations between Spacemen 3 co-frontmen Peter Kember and Jason Pierce, the group's bassist Will Carruthers, drummer Jonny Mattock, and guitarist Mark Refoy decided to form a splinter group, before persuading Pierce to join
they persuaded Jason to join? surely not?

That bit has seemed strange to me as well, I read somewhere that Jason felt they were in tune to what he was doing and asked them to join based on the results of Recurring. Pete felt he stole the band from underneath him. Is there anything in the Spacemen 3 book to clean that up? I have tried to find that book and it is only avaialble as download and paperback copies are very expensive on E-bay.

Re: Spz Wikipedia Page
there is a section in the book that concerns that- it basically says that jason approached them saying that he was thinking of starting a new band that would be more democratic. there's a whole chapter devoted to the shift. it's a shame that that book went out of print and fetches ridiculous prices because it's a pretty good read- i've read it twice at least.
Re: Spz Wikipedia Page
another little inaccuracy in there is that spiritualized inherited spacemen 3's contract with dedicated. s3's manager had actually drawn up a section in their contract stating that spacemen 3 did not exist unless both pete and jason were involved. when dedicated tried to snag spiritualized using their contract with s3 as leverage they ended up having to pay again in order to sign them because of that clause. it's quite the seedy little story- certainly a lot more interesting than what they have on that wikipedia page.

you're absolutely right shalloboi, just checked my copy of the book. Jason quite clearly forms Spiritualized himself. no idea where the alternate view would have come from

I don´t think this is very true anymore. I wanna change it to:The musical style of Spiritualized relies heavily on sustained 'pedal' notes and drones.
"Early on, the musical style of Spiritualized relied heavily on sustained 'pedal' notes and drones, although this has been less true on their releases in the 21st century."
or something like that..
LICD or SIA&E heavily relying on drones? I think not.

Re: Spz Wikipedia Page
agreed, I think it should mention how the band have moved on from drones to embrace more traditional songcraft.
you could stretch it by saying that they still have a bedrock of minimalism and basic chord changes (some tunes on SiA&E still only have two chords) but actual drones are not really prominent any more.
it's interesting though, how a lot of the time it's the production itself that makes the big difference. as revealed by the acoustic mainline shows, songs from Lazer Guided right up to A&E sit pretty well side by side when given the same treatment.

Re: Spz Wikipedia Page
thighpaulsandra isn't in the band anymore, is he? Yet he's listed in the current band members box on the right.
Did Pure Phase make it to 20 in the album chart? I thought it was a huge commercial and mild critical flop (even if it my favourite of their albums).
