The Doors aside, who I can't stand, Sean has good taste. Sticky Fingers is also my favourite Stones album and Moonlight Mile is amazing. great shout out to Acetone as well.

from the full Beatles catalogue and assorted solo releases you go for a Paul solo album as the one you couldn`t do without hearing again ...... interesting.jadams501 wrote:William Shatner - The Transformed Man

I know quite a few people who can't stand the doors. It's a strange one..angelsighs wrote:The Doors aside, who I can't stand, Sean has good taste. Sticky Fingers is also my favourite Stones album and Moonlight Mile is amazing. great shout out to Acetone as well.
I used to unconditionally love the doors, but now find i have to be in the right mood to listen to them. but on those occasions they still sound ace. to be honest I would still opt for LA woman if i had to choose just one doors album. talk about a band on fire...
and yeah, sean obviously knows his shit. whether you agree or disagree with his choices (and personally i couldn't imagine a worse choice than the sex pistols) his descriptions are spot on.
i especially like that he votes for orbison basically just for 2 tracks. that's a serious obsession, haha...
if i was trapped in a bunker i would probably choose more trippy/hypnotic stuff because that's amazing to zone out/sleep to. ...and electric ladyland of course!

same here, I'm not a fan of the Sex Pistols much at all but he puts the argument forward eloquentlymoop wrote: and yeah, sean obviously knows his shit. whether you agree or disagree with his choices (and personally i couldn't imagine a worse choice than the sex pistols) his descriptions are spot on.

I agree with everything Sean says about Roy Orbison. I was playing him again late last night and wondering how I'm not bored yet of listening to the old classics. 20+ years of listening to the Big O and he still blows me away

interesting choice, though one that never quite clicked with me as a whole, esp considering how much i love most of the people involved.radioshack wrote:Dark Night of the Soul - Dangermouse and Sparklehorse
I can imagine 'dreamt for light years in the belly of a mountain' being apt too, what with the title track and 'please don't take my sunshine away' (which are, incidentally, both amazing songs)

watching the Roy Orbison -Black And White Nights dvd last night ,god knows how many times I`ve saw it but it never fails to blow me away ,what a voice ,and to see all those great musicians in genuine awe off such a talent .wonderful.Broc wrote:I agree with everything Sean says about Roy Orbison. For the record, I was just following up on jack white's hipster comment.niamhm wrote:from the full Beatles catalogue and assorted solo releases you go for a Paul solo album as the one you couldn`t do without hearing again ...... interesting.
Actual 5 desert island discs, assuming I have to stick with officially released LPs:
Verve - Northern Soul
Spacemen 3 - Perfect Prescription
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
Derek & The Dominoes - Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs

Re: brmc drummer 'hip' desert island discs inc spz
I really, really love this record. I find it quite moving in places. Daddy's Gone, Man Who Played God, Insane Lullaby, Revenge....those songs are tinged with a weird sadness, probably exacerbated by the tragic circumstances of Mark Linkous. I feel like it's been overlooked.moop wrote:interesting choice, though one that never quite clicked with me as a whole, esp considering how much i love most of the people involved.radioshack wrote:Dark Night of the Soul - Dangermouse and Sparklehorse
Such great lyrics, delivery etc... I also think the production is brilliant, and the arrangements are particularly inspired in places. I think also the album contains the best Strokes song the Strokes never released, Julian Casablancas' track Little Girl. I'd say only Frank Black offers up a duff track. 12 good songs out out of 13, each track a collaboration, is pretty good going in my book. It didn't do much for me at first, but it slowly grew on me. Definitely my favourite record in recent years.
Having said that, I know a number of Sparklehorse fans are a little indifferent to it, and prefer Sparklehorse alone.

And niamhm - yes! That long take of 'Dream Baby' on there is very very special indeed. What a gig, love that show, first heard this only in the last year..
jadams - Clooney is a hipster too, according to the web:
"Shatner has defended his "stylings", refusing to acknowledge it as an experiment that went wrong, and insisting instead that it was an acting performance from the perspective of an LSD user; the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has often been abbreviated to LSD. This piece of music has been singled out by both Dave Barry and Mad magazine as being, in Mad's words, "truly unfortunate". George Clooney, for instance, chose this as one of the Desert Island Discs he would bring along if marooned – as an incentive to leave the island. He said, "If you listen to [this song], you will hollow out your own leg and make a canoe out of it to get off this island."In a 2003 Music Choice poll, it was voted as the worst Beatles cover of all time"

That's funny because his version of Rocket Man was clearly also from the perspective of an LSD user. I'm seeing a pattern here..
