A 14 album vinyl box set? Man, that is going to break the bank. Santa?
Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
Santa's going to be broke with all these complete vinyl box sets, super deluxe editions, immersion editions, and deluxe versions that are on the wish list. Is it me, or is this getting a little crazy?
Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
Jesus, can't wait to hear the Lost Tapes!

that box set is pretty crazy. it's a bit annoying how that new live album is only in there. it's unclear whether the Lost Tapes will be on CD or vinyl too
didn't Neu do a similar thing recently- there was a boxet of all their albums, including an unreleased one I think but only on vinyl

Yeah totally. Just got the last remastered version - the one with the Bobby G sleevenotes - a few years ago? 2007?Minky wrote:Is it me, or is this getting a little crazy?
The music industry's last great cash cow is the repackage/remaster/tacky badge thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes its unnecessary but mostly the 'remastering' should just be called 'vast amounts of compression'. They are fucking a lot of these records into total audio mush... the previous version of this album I mention sounded excellent anyway - unless of course they are just releasing that remaster again? The notes are a bit vague...

Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
I don't really have a problem with re-releasing/repackaging as long as there is unheard material being unleashed and it's done with care and attention. lets face it, a lot of the older stuff is better than much of the crap being released today.
it's also much better when the band themselves are involved rather than just a record company reshuffling the same old tracks
the previous Can issues sounded absolutely superb- I shouldnt think there's a need for another remaster (like you, I really hope they don't brickwall it)

it's a sign of the times- economic decline- no inspiring new music (mainstream)- no coldplay album this year to boost figures- so reissue for the geek boys n girls- look this one comes with a case NOT made by child labour! those lil bastards taking our jo...*walks out of the room and muttered quotes from the daily mail can be heard through the wall*...what would diana say...cancer...etc

Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
so I read the review of this in the new issue of Uncut.
it says the live tracks are in mono and not particularly great quality

Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
Angelsighs - when it comes to live stuff some people what it in pristine hi fi quality. Read that uncut review and since I have a copy of this live gig could not understand what he was on about - sounded like a fan so surely he would cream his pants at the prospect of over 40 mins of CAN in there prime playing live but alas its in mono!!! Personally love mono live recordings. Anyways there are some short amazon samples here for you to judge the live bits yerself sound great to me but I spend far to long listening to live boots anywasys

Re: Can - Tago Mago 40th Anniversary
I don't have a particular problem with mono recordings (can give it a nice bit of force to the sound) it's sound quality I'm worried about. I wouldn't say I'm super fussy but i have been burned before by official releases that basically sound like bootlegs (and not particularly great ones)
I think the boot is called Free Concert something like that?
i'll give a listen to those samples anyway, cheers!

There actually is a new Coldplay album that just came out this year, a few weeks ago. You're behind the times!bunnyben wrote:it's a sign of the times- economic decline- no inspiring new music (mainstream)- no coldplay album this year to boost figures- so reissue for the geek boys n girls- look this one comes with a case NOT made by child labour!

RE: The Lost Tapes, if anyone was like me, and found the price a bit off putting, it appears that's it's been reissued in a much more affordable digipack version.. I bought a copy for 12 quid from amazon!!
it arrived today, can't wait to get stuck in!
