watch spz live online...

Post by bunnyben »

On Sunday evening, Spiritualized and Wild Beasts are sharing the bill on the final night of the Other Voices festival in Ireland – and you can watch both performances, live and for free, on guardian.co.uk/music.

The gig takes place at St James's church in Dingle, County Kerry . . . bookmark this page [see link below] and return at 9.30pm GMT on Sunday to watch the show.

quality of stream isn't great.. the guitars sound really weedy :(

i liked the interview.. the record was pretty much recorded in his front room, with occasional outside trips to Iceland for strings or America for singers :)
and he was aiming for proper pop with the clarity of Beatles records

EDIT: according to post on Guardian site, setlist is

Hey Jane
Cheapster
Mary
Rated X
Little Girl
So Long You Pretty Things
...and something else

Fantastic show! Longer than I was expecting. The stream over here was almost perfect aurally. I had it hooked up to my TV with some great speakers, so it looked and sounded great.

Who recorded it?

Finally I got me some Spiritualized!!!

It's been too long... really like the new songs. Haven't heard any of the others yet, so this is my first glimpse. Can't wait to hear the record. Interview was great too. Wish there were still budgets for big studios, don't know when I last got a chance to set foot in one- they're all dying out.

So grateful this was streamed. :D

but impossible to make a stream of such low quality look great on my 42 inch while sitting right in front of it - attack of the huge pixels!

Uh uh. Turgid drag of a tune. My heart sank a little knowing that it was still being played :(

Jason is some man, even in a short gig he still manages a mid-set lull  Quite enjoyable all the same. Sounded great on the headphones.

In the interview beforehand, sans shades, he reminded me of Owen Wilson!

Here's a 256kbps mp3. I haven't had a chance to split the tracks up into individual mp3s.

The audio could possibly do with being louder also.

Quite an interesting interview, especially that he wants to make an epic pop record of its time (comparisons with the Beatles?). Managed to catch the end of the set last night. Going to try to see if there's a catch it again option somewhere. What was the full set list?

That'd be good. The sound could do with a bit of beefing up I think.

Not sure why that is. I downloaded it and tested it and it worked ok for me. Maybe because it's a rar file you're having probs?

Its done, uploading to youtube in a bit. Brought all the levels up, first track was way quieter than the rest so separated that and adjusted separately. Its all one file though, don't have the time to sit and break it all up sadly.
I'll post here in an hour or two.

I hadn't heard any of the new tunes so thought Hey Jane was great, those other two in the middle not at all. Maybe they might grow on me but I'm well sick of Jason's fire/lord themed songs. At this stage he should leave them instrumentals if that's all he can come up with.

Hey Jane was certainly a highlight for me but a little underwhelmed by it all. Would have preferred a non Spacemen 3 song as a closer, could he not have chosen a Spz rocker to wake the crowd up again at the end? I don't mean to be so negative but personally they've done very little for me since LICD. Sorry!

Just listened to the whole of the show (thanks Ollie and Neil) in the bath (sorry if I've managed to put anyone off their lunch with that disturbing image!! ) and it sounds great. They're getting really tight with the new songs so next years shows/album sh ould be brilliant. Strange that he picked 2 tracks from Amazing Grace (Cheapster and Rated X) along with TMTTOS to fill the set. Don't get me wrong, I love those songs, but interesting choices from his entire back catalogue, especially as many see AG as his weakest album... is that some kinda statement from the Spaceman?

No, I think you are trying to make a simple thing become complicated.

Spiritualized usually play rated x and my "wild guess" would be that it´s because Jason likes to play it.
I don´t think he gives a fuck about other peoples individual taste when it comes to his music - simple as that.

I think "Cheapster" and "Rated X" are strong tracks from what is overall a lackluster album. They both come off well live, too. I could deal without TMTTOS at this point. He's kinda played that song into the ground. I'd have rather heard "Lay Back In The Sun".

Nah, Cheapster and Rated X are both highlights from what overall is one of J's best albums. And I hope he never stops playing TMTTOS, even if I prefer Things'll Never Be The Same.

I usually think of LICD as sort of the end of an era for Spz, taking the Pure Phase and Ladies & Gents aesthetic to its logical conclusion, with AG and A+E representing a new and more stripped-down chapter. So, assuming the new album continues along that path, to me it makes sense for those two songs to make the set.

yeah I agree with the first part.. both are really strong songs that stand out from the album and deserve a slot in the setlist, not least because they provide a bit of variety. Cheapster is a rocker but the delivery makes it sound different to Jasons other rock songs.. and there's not really anything else that sounds quite like Rated X in the catalogue either

I love TMTTOS, but agree that it is in danger of getting a bit tired.. it's been a regular set ender on the LICD & A&E tours, and currently. having said that I'm not sure what could replace it as the set ending wigout...
the first time I ever saw the band, on the LICD tour they finished with it and it blew my mind... i wasnt that familiar with Sp3 at the time and after finding out it was one of their songs it made me investigate further

Hey, just wanted to say that I'm happy to see people mentioning this song. The Amazing grace album does not often get much praise but this and a handful of others from that record are some of my favorite spz songs.

I hope I get to hear it again soon.
