I was just coming here to post about this terrible news.

I saw the Monkees on tour last year and his performance was incredible. Very high energy and it was hard to believe he was in his 60s.

Very, very sad.

That's sad. I wonder how my sister is taking it. He was on her walls in the late 60's...

I was really shocked to hear this last night. I used to love watching The Monkees as a kid.

Out of them all, i'm really suprised it was him that passed away. Tragic. Listened to Porpoise Song last night as a tribute to him.

RIP Davy Jones. :(

Har har.

They did all of their own singing (and sounded fantastic) and contributed some instrumental parts. Their band had a lot of chemistry.

FWIW, I don't see why the Monkees get attacked for not playing their instruments when a) plenty of other pop groups from the period, including the Beach Boys and the Ronettes, mostly didn't play and b) at the height of their fame the Monkees rebelled against their management and insisted on creative control, including playing their own instruments.

Wasn't that the point where the success started to fade? That always tends to be the beginning of the end for most manufactured acts. Before you get all worked up I love quite a few Monkees songs.
