um it's two 4 letter words joined...
“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

Way back at the dawn of time - 1991 or thereabouts - there were a bunch of vaguely but not quite similar bands - Ride, Lush, Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Moose, etc - who, as well as a shared influence by MBV, used to drink together and go to each others gigs. For want of a better thing to do, and because music journalists can tend towards the lazy, other bands like Spiritualized and Cranes were lumped into the same scene (which wasn't actually even called "shoegaze" at the time).

Everything else is history.

For which reason it was also known as the scene that celebrates itself.

I've seen Spz lumped in with this 'scene' a number of times in the past, the only thing they share was being around at roughly the same time.
