http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show/ There might be an easier way to get to it, but this is the way that I found. They did an under 4 minute version of Hey Jane.

NIce to see the band up close as I was pretty far at the back in Toronto...

Not sure if Letterman's comments about ignoring the artwork were appreciated. Jason didn't look terribly impressed. :?

Speaking of which, I can't help but wonder if the colour separated/slightly offset version of Huh? that's on stickers and t-shirts was in the running for the cover art... It seems like it would have fit the bill nicely and reinforces the whole disorientation/medication-haze J's been speaking of in interviews.

ArghH! I shouldn't read British websites with time-sensitive material.

Don't shoot me down in flames here but...

I think they've done an excellent job of distilling "Hey Jane" into 4 minutes. Much better than the decimation of "I think I'm in Love" in its radio edit.

Great pace to it too.

Wow, I thought that was really great! Excellent performance. I wish they'd have recorded this version for the 7" and put something else on the b-side. I think it would have made for a more interesting release than just splitting the song in half.

I'm surprised Letterman would have Spaceman back again. I thought his performance of YLYC a few years back was a disaster (indifferent performance + terrible sound at the Ed Sullivan Theater) and had assumed that bridge was burned for good.

Looking forward to checking this out!

Not that it's terribly significant, but was Jason sporting a little diamond earring in that broadcast? I don't recall ever having seen an earring in the past...

It was a good performance indeed - love, love, love the back-up singers!

Same ear ring stud as when they played other voices. A watch too then!

J looks so well now too.

I saw them last year at the Sydney Opera House doing Ladies & Gentlemen......for the Vivid Live Fest - front row about 2 metres from him and he looked like death. Still ripped it up though.

Really enjoyed the version.

I agree that it should've been like this on the 7", with something else on the flip.

P.S. where was Coxon?

The back up singers add this really playful element to the show. They do indeed....rock.

Yeah, my wife was pretty entertained by them in Toronto... ever since the show she periodically breaks out her "back-up singer moves"...

Great version, wasn't sure a four minute 'Hey Jane' would work, but Spaceman pulls it off again!

not too sure if i like this ^ (edit: i mean the singers, not your wife, warmgun!)
think i still prefer the UK singers.. they don't have the cheesy-poppishness of the NA two, they just seem... i dunno, they seem "spiritualized", like an intrinsic part of the band now. they're like an instrument onto themselves. the american girls, to me, are a bit jarring performancewise having only experienced the sublime heaviness of the UK singers.

Glad you clarified that jack white... could have been some fighting words.

Having only seen the girls on the A&E tour in a festival setting (are these the UK singers you were referring to?), I can't really comment on the heaviness of things - it was a short set and seems like ages ago.

I do feel that the two singers behind Jason on this tour lent the show a kind of poppy, 60's, motown-esque vibe (especially with some of their moves and vocal parts) which I really liked. I think it worked well in the context of the show and album.

I'm sure at some point we'll get a heavier version of the band, but for now, this works just fine for me!
