Call me controversial (but I did think that part of the forum was to encourage people to put forward differing opinions, and I accept that everyone has their own), but to wish death upon someone else. On the rather harsh side.....?

Actually, I do have a decent sense of humor, thank you very much. Perhaps we just go to different parties?

Love it. Last great album they made, ha ha.
I even saw them live in 1981 and they were horrible- Bono doing his Jim Morrison/leather trousers thing.

This thread title made me cringe too.
I'm too old for parties.
I prefer to sit at home and listen to Simple Minds.

People need to lighten up. It's not like I was calling for Bono's giant severed head, I just thought it would be a good thread title for posting the passing of great musicians. Jeesh.

I happened to hear Sanctify Yourself on satellite radio this morning!

4 points immediately occur to me at this point:

(1) Maybe we do attend different parties

(2) Regarding the comment about leather trousers - I hardly see anyone vilifying Jim Reid

(3) If you're going to have a thread for posting missed musicians, maybe a more appropriate title would be better

(4) Whether you agree with a given musicians political or personal creed is irrelevant as to their musical ability - it doesn't justify wishing death upon them

Right, I've climbed off my high horse now!! Sorry in turn if I've offended anyone too.

I agree with Alan's post above.

I really dislike this thread immensely. It goes against the spirit of the rest of the board, and is attracting the kind of responses I usually don't associate with this group. Can I suggest that we lock this thread, or rename it, or even delete it? (I realise that is censorship, but what the helll.....)

FWIW "hate" is a word that is not used by my family, so to be described as a humourless hater is really quite offensive.

Bono is a monarchist cunt. there's no denying his rampant horribleness (& crap music). (i thought "why couldn't have been bono?" was some sort of meme i'd missed out on???)

still it distracts & detracts from the point. it woulda been nice to have a 'proper' thread for Robin Gibb & Doc Watson.

tbh i had to google Bob Welch...

I oppose censoring this or pretty much any thread. It doesn't take long for a thread to sink into the murky deep once people stop responding.

RIP to anyone a board member is mourning!

I'll let this thread "die". Shocked to find so many overly sensitive types in one place...
An observation: I'm not new to the message board scene. I've seen many once-thriving boards reduced to ghost towns, mainly due to the fact that a minority of controlling lifers entrench themselves and start dictating to others what is or isn't appropriate behavior for a particular site or formulate narrow-minded opinions as to what the "tone" or "spirit" of the board ought to be.

I can see that happening here.

Here is a thread wishing misfortune (death) on somebody for their art (or the way they make their living if you prefer). The same thread contains comment vilifying said individual for their beliefs. Seems a bit extreme to me, but then we're all different and others may disagree. I just can't understand why some feel the need for this kind of narrow minded mean spirited crap..

Because it's the internet and for whatever reason some people think that the relative anonymity of the computer means they can say whatever the hell they want with no repercussion. Oddly, once people bite back they seem shocked.

Comments on most news sites are the perfect example of this. Look no further than the comments underneath many news stories on Yahoo. This feature seems to bring out the worst in people. Freedom of speech? Absolutely. But, people hiding behind computer screens and being dicks is lame and seems like middle school (11-14 years old) all over again.

People from different areas can have different senses of humor -- for instance I know very liberal people who will say off-color things. I don't think anything in this thread has been on the level of news comments.

Let me add an R.I.P. Davy Jones to our mournings.
