"Pierce also drank to excess"

So because he's had treatment for liver disease, the internet has now decreed that this is down to him being a quasi George Best?

That's a curiously unpleasant and rather vulgar article. Who is Dave Segal anyway?

He used to live around here. His brother Michael worked for me.
I didn't really see it as horribly unpleasant.
My opinion is that it was writen by someone who championed Spacemen 3 before anyone around here. And many other bands including My Bloody Valentine.
However he not only writes for the Stranger he is also an electro-hipster DJ. So this review may be a bit jaundiced by the fact he was once a massive Spacemen3/Spiritualized fan.
Maybe a poor attempt at sarcasm/humor?
I dunno.

Consequently, while Kember looks shockingly well preserved at 46,
That's the first time i have ever seen this issue being raised in such an article.

I just think to highlight ill health in that manner is off the mark. Journos used to just ask Pete K about drugs in Sp3 interviews and he'd talk about it so that's what they'd print rather than stuff about the music.

I remember Michael. Used to collect nothing but 7" singles, right?

Yep. One of his many "phases".

I think it's a good article, one of the better shortish pieces I've read. The guy is clearly a knowledgeable fan of Jason and Sonic, so I don't think a bit of irreverence is out of order.

The details of Jason and Pete's respective healths are their business, and they deserve privacy. However, when their music has dealt so vividly and extensively with substance abuse for so many years, I think it's only natural for a fan to wonder how much that sort of thing might have to do with their widely reported health issues.

Sonic's collapsed lung seems like quite an omission, though.
