It's supposed to come out in December 2013? I thought it was already in the bag and just needed the funds for release.

They needed the funds mostly to pay for all of the licensing of music and videos to put in the film. If you've ever dealt with this, especially as an indie project, it is quite a bit of a time suck. I think most of the interviews and editing are done, but the final post production of a film easily can take a year, considering there are only two filmmakers really working on the project. I'm just glad we'll see it in some form or another.

Any update on this? I remember being really excited when this was first posted.

There's meant to be one coming up about the amazing Lowlife too:

A good news update was sent via Kickstarter on October 3rd:

Dear Beautiful Noise Backers,

The movie is coming along great. The clearance process which is very complicated has extended beyond the expected wrap date back in July. The fact that this painfully slow process is even happening is thanks to all of you so we want you to know how very grateful we continue to be for both your support and your patience. This movie IS happening and it will come out and you will all get your rewards, the clearances are just happening at a pace that is far slower then we would all like. Our reps are working steadily to navigate the massive looming web of copyright that comes from amassing hundreds of licenses for this film. Masters are being unearthed and shipped to us from all over the world and while we wait for the clearances to finish we are investing our energy and focus on final editorial and post along with exploring possible future festival screenings.

Please continue to stay tuned and we will keep you informed.

Thank you!

Eric & Sarah

yeah that's why I asked.. not sure how the whole film festival thing works, you often hear of films being shown there that don't turn up for ages. I'm not sure what the 'festival season' is either!

That looks cool, but I'm pretty sure Spacemen 3 were as much of an influence on those bands as JAMC, MBV, Cocteau Twins and The Cure?

i've watched the movie twice now- i really enjoy it. it's gotten me to listen to a bunch of ride (at last). i somehow had never listened to all of 'nowhere' until today- once it was finished i kicked myself several times- my first copy was a really worn-out cassette that sounded really awful. as someone who's been a massive cure fan since high school it seems to me that robert smith functions almost as the greek chorus for this film- everything he says about the movement and era is so spot-on.

it's also gotten me back on a cocteau twins kick, which is always a good thing.

I enjoyed this documentary also, but was a little disappointed that Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized were not mentioned at all. At least Sonic Boom was included among the many interviewees. It would be interesting to see the full versions of all of the interviews, since most of them did not get much screen time. Many of the actual interviews must have been a bit longer than what was presented in the finished film. The DVD does not include any extra features, so maybe they will appear at some point in the future?

watched this the other night. ticked all the boxes but wouldn't put it in the category of classic rock docs.

the most interesting point was that shoegaze was a very equal genre in terms of gender.. lots of mixed gender bands, female singers, and the music was fairly feminine and non blokey. then Britpop and Loaded magazine came along and ruined all that, of course..

Sonic Boom is very briefly in it and looks totally wasted!
