i have read that the extras are of very poor sound quality....is this the case or was it written by someone with an intolerance to a bit of lo-fi sound?

I think the sound quality is fairly decent for what amounts to demos recorded circa late 80s. Certainly better fidelity than say TDTMMTTDT, but I'm not sure that was the point, as they were both demos. Its good to hear some of the songs with Andrea Heukamp singing as well and the did a very thorough job of covering all of the material and versions from around that time. I was debating getting the reissues from a few years ago of this album and the german album but I am so glad I waited.

Absolutely lapping this up right now. On to some of the unreleased tracks from that time period.
I remember seeing them when this record was out the the Brighton Escape Club and they tore my head off. I still have the poster I peeled off at the show, well from the pub upstairs anyway.
Terry Bickers was something else. You can hear it on these demos. Noise merchant extraordinaire.

Anyone know if the band is ever going to re-emerge? I thought "Days run away" was really good and really wish they would record again. They are way too talented not to be making music.

I agree! (Though I haven't heard "Days Run Away".) You won't have to wait much longer for more:

always had a soft spot for the House Of Love , only saw them the once , just before Bickers left , and as you say they were quite a proposition live , severely kicked ass, the album I mostly go back to these days if I want to hear some HOL is the second one , which seems to be critically anyway , poorly regarded , whatever , I like it,
