your "help me feel better" playlists

Post by ro »

yah, it's a pretty personal thing, i guess.

but i have just now been sitting on a wet log in the woods with a bottle of wine in the beautiful warm spring rain, and was glad i had my "i-pod" with me.. playing my special "help me feel better" playlist, which runs like this, give or take, and i was just curious what-all you folk listen to when you're having those moments...

it's kind of tailor-made to my own personal suffering/redemption, easy stuff, slightly 80's centric (b/c that's where i come from), slightly not, and not in order, because i've too much wine to set in order, just words that speak to me in my extreme states...

i make diary playlists every month. they're kind of compilations of what i'm listening to at the moment or what i'm getting all nostalgic and wistful about. it's a really fun practice- when i listen to one from years ago it really pulls me back to what was happening in my life when i made it.
i have quite a few that would fall under that 'help me feel better' category. i make a playlist on my birthday every year and in 2011 i was fired from a job i'd been at for three years in a really awful and drawn-out way on the day before my birthday and that one is something i listen to make myself feel better when i'm feeling low-

1. set your arms down- warpaint- 'the fool'
2. bo diddley jam- spacemen 3- 'copenhagen barbue 1989 bootleg'
3. alien rivers- crystal stilts- 'in love with oblivion'
4. like cockatoos- the cure- birmingham 87 bootleg
5. love fade- tamaryn- 'the waves'
6. untitled- koolaid electric company- s/t
7. tropical island suite- the fresh & onlys- 'play it strange'
8. winter '68- the black angels- 'another nice pair'
9. o, lilac- wild nothing- 'gemini'
10. i'll feel a whole lot better- the byrds- 'mr. tambourine man'
11. mary- jessica bailiff- s/t
12. tears in the typing pool- broadcast- 'tender buttons'
13. waves wash over me- spectrum- 'soul kiss (glide divine)'
14. scheherezade- panda bear- 'tom boy'
15. turtle island- beach house- 'devotion'
16. my time's up- the raveonettes- 'raven in the grave'
17. 200 bars- spiritualized- 'lazer guided melodies'
18. stinking cloud- thee oh sees- 'castlemania'

i really like your playlist- i had that same version of 'shine a light' from the acoustic mainlines boston show in a playlist from 2008 or so, i think.

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”
