i managed to record beach house's set last night and it turned out alright- the quality of the stream is kind of crappy (both audio and video wise- whoever's mixing the audio stream is phoning it in a bit).
i've been checking in throughout the day to monitor the connection and i'm going to stay up late and try and capture the spiritualized set. man, there are a lot of AWFUL acts playing at this festival, though!

well, i'm still awake and it's nearly 7am in here, just to here them live via youtube. if there are somebody here to record them, that will be fine. my connection is not perfect though, i'm not sure about recording on my own would be worth listening.

if there are some people with fine connection to record it, it would be awesome.

the last song was "take good care of it" and jason just sang the first lines and continued with "thank you" and then whole band left.

that was a big disappointment. seriously.

i got the audio and video- but the video is kind of crappy- the stream went really pixellated whenever there were strobing lights.
plus the sound of the stream was TERRIBLE!
have to be up for work in 5 hours. kind of a shame what a farce that stream was (and i'd imagine the actual sound at the festival- there was a really weird energy to that set and i'm guessing that's the cause).

Here is the set list:

Here It Comes (A short version with Doggen playing the harmonica and I could barely hear Jason)
Hey Jane
Electricity
Shine A Light
Let It Flow
So Long You Pretty Thing
I Think I'm In Love
New Song? (Lyrics from my memory "All the love you give will come back to you some day" It was only about a minute and then they were done)

Other than Here It Comes I could hear Jason well, although I couldn't hear the back up singers very well, which I really noticed on I think I'm in Love. All told it was just over 50 minutes. Aside from the problems with the vocals I thought it sounded pretty good.

God, I would eat my soiled underpants* if it meant that the concert arrangement of "Take Good Care of It" was back in the setlist after all of these years. I love that song long time.

Peace & love

alright, here is the audio link (finally)-

https://www.dropbox.com/s/7sxii2mempzjm ... chella.zip

it's 320kbps mp3s. if anyone wants flacs please feel free to ask.
my two cents- i think this audio rip sounds pretty great considering the circumstances. there were several jarring, weird popping noises throughout the set. i've removed most of them when i found that i could do so without interrupting the flow of the music. a few are still in there. there are also a few skips (one in 'so long you pretty thing' and one in 'i think i'm in love'). i was able to make the whole thing a lot louder once i'd removed a bunch of peaks and i found that the mix gained a lot of colour once this happened.

as for the video, i loaded it into imovie and messed with it a bit and it looks alright for the most part, the only thing is that i couldn't do anything to fix the pixellated parts. it's a shame because a lot of the video is very beautiful, but whenever there are crazy strobes and bright white lights the wide shots look incredibly pixellated and it's very distracting. so i'm just going to upload the original rip that i did using snagit. it's in mp4 and it's around 150mb. that one's going to be next to be uploaded.

I'd be interested to know what more folks at the gig thought of the live sound? Dave Rat has been raving about the new EAW Anya system which in his own words uses 'game changing' technology in the boxes to improve on existing standard line arrays - eg no need to angle arrays as the DSP can digitally steer the sound to adjust the throw, gain shading, provide downfill and so forth, to suit whatever venue coverage is needed.

The Gobi stage was advertised as the debut for this new system. It would be interesting to hear what people thought of the sound there compared to the other big stages, especially the main stage with a big K1, KUDO etc rig.

Normally this would just sound like typical marketing hyperbole. However from such a well respected tech as Dave Rat, who is used to always having the best racks & stacks from modern line array pioneers and market leaders L'Acoustics, in the form of huge V-DOSC and more recently K1 boxes, plus his well-regarded pioneering work steering sub-bass frequencies with complex subwoofer arrangements, I'm subsequently much more inclined to believe this particular hype.

I'm surprised at the comments on the poor quality of the streamed audio, as Rat Sound are well renowned and experienced in broadcast feeds as well as live sound quality. Anyone who's seen the Chili Peppers will have heard his work, as in addition to providing sound he mixes front of house for them, and has done so since the early 90's as far as I know.
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

This is just hearsay I guess, but I had a mutual friend who was at the show, he said it sounded pretty amazing/that it was the highlight of the weekend....

my main gripe was with the streaming audio- there were a lot of weird pops and glitchy noises. i managed to get a lot of them removed from about 'shine a light' onwards, but the stream was riddled with them. i also bear in mind the fact that it's a live event and things are going to go wrong no matter what.

also, to be fair, my gold standard was the 'ladies and gentlemen...' radio city music hall stream. that one was about 2 million times better in quality than any live stream has a right to be.

i did notice that the tame impala stream sounded really great. seriously, it sounded amazing! i did find a lot of comfort in hearing that spiritualized sounded good for those that were present- that's what really counts.

also, as a bit of a footnote, does anyone want my really dodgy video rip? no one seems to have captured it.
