Both albums I have are excellent - Consolation and Fireplace. They sound like some alternative radio station with no DJ as there are so many styles and pastiche takes of various genres. Early Stones, Aliens, Elevators, Beck, Beta Band and more. This is obviously a very clever guy... Was in Aqua Nebula Oscillator at one point.

From the rockin' blues of "Cuckoo" posted above to the psychedelic "Keep Your Mind Open". They blend folk, country and eastern throughout their songs too. Amazing band!

In case there might be confusion for some...there are at least three (I"m sure more) bands that used the name Kaleidoscope. The one I have been raving about were from the US (Los Angeles). Probably because of all the eastern instruments they used and how eclectic their music was I think their records haven't dated as much as the British band of the same name. There is also a pretty great, one off record by a Kaleidoscope from Mexico.
Here's more from the US band (sorry, I'm on a kick of Kaleidoscope and Mighty Baby at the moment):

Praise be! I love that scene in the film, Jagger dancing with the light beam, Chas wasted and grooving on the mushroom trip whilst glorious little Lucy dances around in a very cool way. Not sure if this video works or not

Mark, I played this track when I guested on my mates radio show last year. Her version of Gimme Shelter has had an airing as well.

That clip is fantastic. My all time favourite scene of any film ever made.
But this is a can of worms. I am passionate about Performance - obsessive even. Watched it countless times, played the soundtrack to death. I couldn't wait for the DVD to come out. What a let down. In the Poor White Hound Dog/Memo From Turner sequence they took one half of the stereo soundtrack and played across both speakers, thereby missing out masses of the music and also the classic 'here's to old England' line. People grumbled there was an issue but no one spotted what had happened, apparently apart from me. I pointed it out to Warner Bros and to this cliquey Criterion forum, also on a review on Amazon. I was amazed no one else spotted what had happened. To me it's obvious. But I am slightly obsessed with that movie.
Now a fucking Blu-Ray disc has come out. Have they corrected this idiotic flaw? Nope, what they have done is grabbed the 'here's to old England' line and shoved it in where it's meant to go but at totally the wrong level and they have left the rest of the audio track where it was - so you still only hear half of it.
For a DVD release of what I consider possibly the greatest British film ever made this is a poor show. Sadly no one seems to give a shit. Until they do it's a VHS cassette that delivers the best Performance experience. How pathetic is that?
To illustrate - the clip you link to here Johnny has the glorious audio generator throb that comes in just as Turner plugs in his 2nd lead. On the DVD this is inaudible, just as the high-pitched drill like noise is when Turner goes nuts with his fluorescent tube. And lots of guitar is missing too. Botch job!

I was a latecomer to Performance, I watched it the first time one Christmas eve at a mates house with a curry on our laps and loved it. I have to admit I didn’t realise they had bodged the part you mentioned Mark but gutted it’s not there! Where is the Blu Ray available? Can’t find it anywhere.

It's a real bugbear of mine. That film deserves a lavish release, but they have totally fucked it up with the DVD and now fucked it up again with the Blu-Ray which I think may have only just come out. Just extraordinary that such a milestone of cinema is treated like this. Blu-Ray might be US only:
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Performan ... ray/98057/
Here is an official message board that discusses such things and this is their thread on Performance:
http://www.criterionforum.org/forum/vie ... f=4&t=2510
This is linked to the people who actually release this stuff. You will see me on here and the points I make are not only valid but 100% correct. Sadly the last post I made which said that the best way to watch Performance is on VHS video cassette and how disappointing that was was rejected for the reason 'This post does not make a contribution to the ongoing discussion.' Seems like that forum is for the inner circle only and ripe with cliquishness. Twats.
I have a DVD made from a showing on BBC of Performance. That is the only way I can watch it - it's the same as one of the various releases on VHS. The voice of Harry Flowers - played by Johnny Shannon - is dubbed on some copies. Sadly that is the one they chose for the DVD release which is just mind-boggling in its ignorance. Something tells me their eye was on the dollar rather than doing the film justice. A missed opportunity of ever there was one.

Played a lot of Damned recently. Then someone sent me this. I knew of King but had no idea this was their song, or even that they recorded anything. And what a version it is - Captain Sensible's solo and fuzz sound is just fantastic, and I'm beginning to think this is as good as the version on Machine Gun Etiquette - which is one of my favourite ever Damned songs.

Such a harrowing, beautiful track. For contrast, I'm going to have to post "Dragon". They're an inseparable pair for me.

isn't the album wonderful? silly in places ' I would cut my legs and tits off. When I think of Boris Karloff and Kinski In the dark of the moon' but in terms of sheer power, emotion and complexity it is very well worth a listen!

Someone put a track up by this lot earlier this year, never thought much of it really, Spectrum-ish I believe was the consensus. This still has touches, but I like this a lot, and the last one, Mad Mary Jones, really looking forward to their album now.

What else could it be. Up to 720p for maximum benefits.
Listen loose for Dr. John's spine-chilling piano, and closely for his distinct backing vocals...
When the horns come in it should be slaying you, unless you're already dead...

Been listening to the first and third Jade Warrior LP's a lot this week. I have no idea if this song inspired Radiohead's "National Anthem" but, it always reminds me of it:
And then there is this lovely tune. Perfect on a gorgeous, sunny Sunday.
