What is the last line of Out Of Sight?

Post by Goodnightgoodnight »

We're getting closer now, to being apart...

I kinda be like people right from the start?

I cannot deal with people right from the start?

I kinda feel like people right from the start?

I cannot be with people right from the start?

This has bugged me for years, guys.

I thought it was:

"I kinda knew that, people, right from the start"

aye, I do love the lyricism of LICD - a lot of wordplay going on. And the most wonderful sound behind it. Somedays, it's my favourite Spiz album.... But I can't figure out these words!

I can't even decide between our hypotheticals, goddamn it. J and a gospel choir manage to bungle it so perfectly.

From further research into boots and such, 2002 things without the choirs seem to suggest..

'I cannot be like people right from the start'

But it's still not definitive.

Next time any of us meet J, we should ask him. I regret not doing so when I had the opportunity.

It really is "I kinda knew that people right from the start".

I've checked the official lyric sheet I was sent as part of the mailing list. It's got the entire lyrics for the whole record and was designed to fit next to the CD in the limited moulded plastic edition.

Never got my copy of that-sent the little postcard thingy off but never heard anything.

Wonder if there are any knocking around anywhere?

Yeah, mine never arrived either. I sent off twice for Spiritualized info - via the card that came with the Electricity single and the LICD card - and nothing ever turned up :(

In the words of the heavily edited version of Robocop they used to show on long haul flights=

Ha - the classic ITV version.

"FORGET you!!!" and the classic "Ladies leave!"

I'm amazed those lyrics ever appeared too - I craftily sent away two sheets from seperate Let It Come Down singles which mentioned the lyric sheets upon receipt of the card. Craftily used two different addresses back then too...

Wherever I lay my hat and stuff.

Anyway Jez - maybe you are the sole recipient of the lyrics? If so, could you (or anyone else fortunate to have them) be able to scan or even type 'em up??

I know, a pain, but the ones on all the lyric sites are teeth-grindingly incorrect, and there are definitely lyrics on there that I'm hearing incorrectly.

As mentioned many times before including this thread: the lyrics on that vast and wonderful record are phenomenal. Not just the word play and recurring themes throughout - there's like a third layer of stuff going on. The closing line of 'Don't Just Do Something' - there's a reason the last line jarringly and obviously does not rhyme. It's like the front cover - it invites you to see (or hear) what isn't there too.

Also - 'The Twelve Steps', prior to legal advice, actually had a rhyming opening couplet:

"If you've got the money for Betty Ford/You ain't got a problem you can't afford"

Allegedly.

Cheers Betty!

Plus...

Don't Just Do Something was flourishing in live performance.
How Jason continued the 'Sometimes...' at the end kept on elevating it.
It had a great build that left you on top at the end.
Even after the horn section was no longer there in 2002 it had that much more focus on that swirl sound.

Time off.
Amazing Grace tour in 2003.
Song lost.

edit: most definitely meant to be posted in the other thread.

This may take some time... It's tiny white writing on a light coloured card so will never scan. I'll look at the lyrics on websites and correct them before posting here. Here's two to be getting on with. If people have a preference for which tracks they want me to do please shout... Or if there are any particular lines you want clarified, again, shout...

I love you like I love the sunrise in the morning
I miss you like I miss the water when I'm burning
I didn't mean to hurt you dear the words just came out wrong
Now I'm broken down and lonely and I can't get along

I love you like I love the sunrise in the morning
I miss you like I miss the water when I'm burning
I didn't mean to hurt you dear the words just came out wrong
Now I'm broken down and lonely and I'm so cold at night

Nothing hurts you like the pain
Of someone you love
There ain't nothing you can gain
That prepares you enough

Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now
Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now

Nothing hurts you like the pain
Of someone you care about
If I could take it all myself
You know I sure would without a doubt

Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now
Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now

Nothing hurts you like the pain
Of someone so close to you
I feel so broke inside
But I'll devote my life to loving you

Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now
Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now

Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now
Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now

Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now
Come on baby stop your crying
Come on baby stop your crying now

...so thank you so much for doing whichever you do whenever you do!

What actually are Jason's 'Twelve Steps' then? Been a while since I heard it and mainly can remember "in bed again" being rather prominent!

Wish they had stuck with the Betty Ford line-but that just suits my own little humour I guess!

I'd love to hear some of these tracks back in the live set too-particularly Don't Just Do Something.

Lyrically, his best record? I think so. Sweet Talk was a high point but LICD is pretty consistently good.

Thanks so much for this... that was exactly what I was looking for too. Despite the distortion of all the instrumentation going at once I'm glad I got these right over the years.

Er, 'On Fire' maybe?

The missing line for 6 is presumably... get a fix, or similar?

Thinking about these lyrics on this record, it's incredibly ironic that this album was dubbed 'a rehab album' at the time... when it's actually anything but that!

Let's see how high we can fly before the sun melts the wax in our wings
Let's see how fast we can go before our eyes can't follow the road
I'm on fire
There's no water for the flames
I'm alive
With no-one but myself to blame
I'm proud that I've never fallen down
I have learned
All that truth has tried to deny
Let's see how fast we can live before our time starts slowing us down
And just how much further we can before we get our place in the ground
I'm on fire
There's no water for the flames
I'm alive with no-one but myself to blame
I'm free
To do just what I want to do
And I've learned all that faith has had me deny
C'mon my lord
C'mon my child
Let heaven flow into your soul
Let it come on down
Ease away the pain
And you won't feel that way again
C'mon my lord
C'mon my child
Let heaven flow into your soul

Thanks so much Jez. It's weird having lived with a record so long you kinda make your own words fit.

Indeed-I remember two distinct moments of that with Spz songs.

The first was the version of Shine a light on the A&E tour-I could have sworn that when the backing singers and J sang 'Shine a light' over the maelstrom ending that they were singing 'oh... don't give up... on me...', which I loved as a lyric.

Second time was when I actually read the words to 'So long you pretty thing', apparently it's: 'The music that you play so hard ain't on your radio' (or something)-can't recall the official lyric now as I always thought it was 'Music let's you play your heartbreak on the radio'

Both of which are lyrics I love! Oh well.

Absolutely agree that this is Jason's best album, lyrically. I don't tend to play it that often, but every time I do, I enjoy it more than I expect to. It could do without the overblown version of Lord Can You Hear Me, but otherwise, fantastic stuff.
I have a passion sweet Lord...

You gotta hope for the best and the best looks good now baby
And I don't think a few words of mine are gonna make your world go round
I'm sitting here looking at the TV and burning holes in everything that I get

You'd better come right down and do it all over again.
You'd better come right down and do it all over again.
You'd better come right down and do it all over again.

I love you like I love the sunrise in the morning
But I don't think a few words of mine are gonna make you change your mind
I'm gonna spend the day in bed and I'm planning on sleeping my life away

You'd better come right down and do it all over again.
You'd better come right down and do it all over again.
You'd better come right down and do it all over again.

You've gotta hope for the best and the best looks great now baby
and I don't think a few words of mine are gonna make your world go round
I'm sitting here looking at the TV and burning holes in everything that I get

You'd better come right down and do it all over again.

You'd better come right down and do it all over again.

Though my body gets tired
My mind does it no favours at all
And there's so little time
To do something, something, anything more

And there's no use in crying
About the damage that you've done inside
There's so little time
To do something, something, anything more

And your eyes say it all
Just like the way they did before
There's so little time
So do something, something, anything more

Don't cry,baby,cry
As long as you and I
Do more than just survive
Don't cry, have a real good life

And y'know the things we do
Mean more to me than you
but the rain just came right through
Don't cry, we'll have a real good life
