put your money where your mouth is- your perfect spz setlist

Post by The Dr »

one rule- only allowed 15 songs (or less) but no more!

i'll try and think of mine in the meantime!
“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

Hey Jane
Run
Feelin' Just Fine (Head Full of Shit)
Headin' For The Top
If I Were With Her Now
Shine A Light
Electric Mainline
Here It Comes
Take Good Care Of It
Walkin' With Jesus
These Blues
Feel So Sad
Things'll Never Be The Same
Spread Your Wings
Smiles

Off the top of my head so liable to change within hours. This contains many of the songs I love the most combined with a few that totally ripped me apart in the past. The tunes that I think are just crying out to be dusted down from the past are Run and Feelin' Just Fine, both beyond glorious every time I heard them.

And Spread Your Wings - isn't that on everyone's list?!

ok, I took runcibles list and worked from that. I think this would hit the spot. Ideally if we are dreaming I would like horns in the band. It is good to dream. While I took a songs few out, I realise I am just cheating by mainly adding songs.

Hey Jane
Run
Feelin' Just Fine (Head Full of Shit)
Headin' For The Top
If I Were With Her Now
I want You
I am what I am
Here It Comes
Take Good Care Of It
Let it flow
These Blues
Feel So Sad
Baby I'm just a fool
Spread Your Wings
Aways Forgetting You
Good times
Good Dope Good Fun
Take me to the other side
Smiles
200 Bars

encore =

Hypnotized
Angel Sigh
Wont get to heaven
Hold on?

ok, pushing it with a four song encore. Angel sigh was the last one I couldn't resist.

Good question! If I had to throw together a setlist at the drop of a hat, it might look something like this:

Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Out Of Sight
Run
Stay With Me
If I Were With Her Now
Medication
Shine A Light
Electric Mainline
Sway
Feel So Sad (Rhapsodies)
Let It Flow
Angel Sigh
Feel Like Goin' Home
Lord Can You Hear Me?
So Long You Pretty Thing

That's today's list anyway. Think I'll sequence it now and hear how it sounds in this order...

i'd have mine in two sets, the first one more poppy building up from the slow intro of won't into the frentic you lie, into the blissed shine etc ending on the euphoric so long. then there would be a 15 minute interval after which it would slowly build up from rated x growing more and more intense until an extended come together, each set could last about 90 minutes each to let each song breath properly, and yes i'd go for the full choir/strings/orchestra

won't get to heaven
you lie you cheat
shine a light
lord let it rain
ladies and gentlemen
hey jane
soul on fire
out of sight
so long you pretty thing

rated x
broken heart
feels like going home
cop shoot cop
bridge song
come together

To be honest I couldn't give a toss what they play as long as the gig finishes up tearing my face off. My only stipulation is that we don't have a mid-tempo lull 80% of the way through the gig. Oh, and more use of the wah-wah pedals and noise please.....you can never really have too much of that.

OK seriously I'll add a proper listing when I can - 'The Bridge Song' would have to be there though.

Gotta say hearing a new album in full for the first time a la RAH 2011 takes some beating. On first listen I equated 'Hey Jane', 'Headin' For The Top Now' and 'So Long You Pretty Thing' with being absolute pinnacles of the Spaceman catalogue.

I missed the tough 15 song criteria. Here is my reduced list. Humph!

Edit - Quite right Spaceline, I've dropped Let if Flow for Slide Song. Tough decisions these.

Headin' For The Top
If I Were With Her Now

I am what I am
Slide Song

nah.. people would be moaning it's "too slow" ;)

okay here's my effort.. if I could choose the setlist for Jason tomorrow I'd pick this. Amazing Grace can jog on, as can songs that have been played a million times like Come Together. I've put the emphasis on variety to show different sides of the band. some absolute cornerstones and some real rarities. but it's not nostalgic as I've included some absolute corkers from the last couple of albums.

Hey Jane
You Lie You Cheat (one of his best ever rockers?!)
Heading For The Top (lots of love for this song in this thread!)
Born Never Asked>
Electric Mainline
Too Late (I love this song! so sue me!)
Baby I'm Just A Fool
Lay Back In The Sun
Angel Sigh
No God Only Religion
Ladies & gentlemen we are floating in space
The Slide Song
I Think I'm In Love

First time poster, long time lurker: hello! I'd like to thank everyone here who's provided news and bootlegs. I'll start posting bootlegs by Spiritualized and others soon to repay the favour.

Whatever J feels like playing is my dream setlist. The four shows I've seen them play are all among the best I've ever seen. But at this moment this is what I'd like Spiritualized to play. 15 songs but it would be a long show. I'd make them get epic! As though they need encouraging...

Hey Jane
Losing Touch With My Mind
Electric Mainline
Shine A Light
Heading For The Top
Born Never Asked
Lay Back In The Sun
Angel Sigh
Feel So Sad (Rhapsodies)

so basically if Jason puts Angel Sigh, Heading For The Top and The Slide Song back in the setlist, then we are all gonna be frothing at the mouth.

Yeah, that's right, only one track from LICD and everything else is from '91-97 :D 8)

I would do unspeakable acts to see something similar to this setlist, with a nice robust lineup.

Slide song only played live in 1994 afaik. The worthington show has nice quality.

There is also a Glastonbury tape from 94 where it has more guitar and is a bit faster. Easily my favorite, but recording quality sucks really fad and I can't locate my copy. That song is my holy grail, and I bet there is a soundboard recording somewhere...

Edit: might be Phoenix festival, not Glastonbury. It's been years since my quest to procure a good copy

Okay here's The Slide Song from Worthing Pier Pavilion '94. let me know if doesn't work.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/vu6o6m

I would share the whole gig, but had a bit of hard drive problems recently (long story) so I'm missing one of the songs- Electric Mainline. it's a shame as it's so cool how the gig all fits together, its really droney and the noise at the end of The Slide Song goes into some droning and then into Electric Mainline.

full setlist is:

Take Good Care Of It
Medication
Walkin' With Jesus
Let It Flow
The Slide Song
Electric Mainline
Take Your Time
Sway
I Want You
These Blues

I'd love to get the full gig back again if anyone can help me out..

I'd love to hear ANY other versions of The Slide Song too- good or bad quality.

Blimey, been thinking about this for some time and I think I'm finally happy with the following (I've kinda cheated with the 15 song limit by grouping the last 3 as one song  ):-

Hey Jane
Cheapster
You Lie You Cheat
Shine A Light
Electric Mainline
Take Good Care of It (live version, not the one on Pure Phase  )
Oh Baby
Let It Flow
Medication
Angel Sigh
Take Your Time
I Think I'm In Love
Come Together

nice choice.. I assume you mean the Pure Phase tour version. SO different to the studio version!

have you also heard the one they did on the Ladies & Gentlemen tour? on some shows they did a really trippy medley where The Individual flowed into Sway, then into that. it was closer to the studio version and really nice. I think they did it at T in The Park and also in San Diego on that tour. magic.

My favorite take good care of it is the version on the worthington show. Those guitars slay me.

I'd also need to include the live, rocking version of anyway that you want me to any dream set list.

And the let it flow from 95 tour with extended ending.

And sweet talk has to be played. I need to stop, too many great songs
