That 2 minute edit sounds like something from the Performance OST!

Wow!

Who does the opening mantra thing? Sounds like Martina Topley-Bird. This is astonishing shit indeed.

Kev, Doggen, Coxon, Youth and Jason - and the SHSL string orchestra...

I'm really up for this gig...

Coz when men are right, they are not young
Please lord, may I bee foolish
Coz when men are wise, they're not satisfied
And please lord, may i bee helpless
Coz when men are strong, they're dangerous y'know

(Especially with weed killer and other toxins...)"

reading the text, apparently it's an improv in the key of D. surely the bread and butter of any Spiritualized member :)

shouldn't it be a jam in the key of 'B' though?? :)

put your honey where your mouth is...

Dear friends,

Bees are vanishing. These industrious creatures that bring us almost one out of every three bites of our food are being sprayed with chemicals that are 6,000 times more toxic to them than DDT! But finally the US government could take action to ban these bee-killing poisons.

Let’s make this the moment for bees!

After 10 years of lobbying, the agency that has the power to ban toxins just opened a public comment period to determine the fate of a major bee-killing chemical. But the agrichemical companies will use their big PR budgets to drown out the science and citizens' voices. A massive call from this community, in partnership with beekeepers, farmers, and scientists, is urgently needed to be the voice for bees.

Our community is already winning on this in the EU. If we can get a ban in the US, it will have a global ripple effect to get rid of these chemicals. Let’s be the voice that stops the collapse of bees worldwide. Click below and tell everyone:
https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_b ... 9337146283

Neonicotinoids -- the pesticides threatening bees -- are a vicious neurotoxin used on 100 million acres of farmland, lawns, and gardens across the US. Bees can’t avoid them because they are everywhere. They spread through soil and water, and cannot be washed off of food. A government study even found them in 29% of baby food!

The US is considering action after releasing a study showing that one of the most common neonics is “very highly toxic to adult honey bees.” But without pressure the government may only limit the use of these toxins -- even though studies show that low doses can disrupt bees' learning, memory and motor functions. We’ve already begun by funding leading scientists and engaging stakeholders. Now is the time for millions of voices to demand the US environment agency and the White House stop the use of these dangerous chemicals altogether.

Seventy out of the world’s top 100 food crops are pollinated by bees! We would have food in a world without bees, but the vivid diversity of native plants, fruits and vegetables would be lost.

The public consultation has just opened. Join the call below to protect bees, and the foods and plants we love -- and tell everyone.

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_be ... 9337146283

The chemical companies would like us to believe that what happens to insects has no impact on people. But in our interconnected ecosystem the death of even tiny creatures like bees ripples through us too. As Rachel Carson, who led the charge against DDT, said: "In nature nothing exists alone." We all depend on each other. We need the bees and the bees need us.

With hope,

Nell, Dalia, Ari, Ben, Emma, Alice, Emily and the entire Avaaz team

ps. Bees are just totally amazing. They form matriarchal societies that communicate with each other by dancing ... their honeycombs are one of the most efficient structures in nature … and their brains can actually stop aging (possibly giving us signs on how to stop dementia)! Let’s help save these incredible creatures together: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_be ... 9337146283

Without Bees, we don't eat. There are viroids and viruses that naturally attack the Bees; and of course too many assorted man-made toxins that are either too toxic and unnatural, (natural toxins are generally deemed "too expensive"). I love honey, and use the Fructosyl glycosides and immune boosting characteristics of innumerable compounds in raw Honey to sweeten instead of refined sugars like Sucrose. But it is of course Bees who pollinate the array of foods we grow and eat, and they are vitally important to many other species besides "just" us.

Farmers here are very protective and caring for their bees; but very large Industrial Farms seem silly to the point of stupidity in expecting the Bees to survive in the toxic brew these Commercial Farms depend; as if they believe Nature to be merely of secondary importance.

After all those years in Laboratories, I learned there is nothing more impressive in its Complexity and reliability than Nature. Understanding it all is another story; there is a Magic to it that I hope never goes away, that SOME Great Mysteries survive. Humans are exceptionally good at fooling themselves into the belief that they can somehow understand what, in fact, they barely comprehend, especially when it concerns Nature.

Really should be in "Song of the Day" thread, but since it's THE BEES
I figured hey, why not.
Utterly lovely song by oldie New Orleans scene band.

While eagerly awaiting the Bee Record in the mail.

For those in London/the south there's also an opportunity to catch this project live at the new festival being put on by the guys at Caught by the River.

See: http://www.caughtbytheriverthames.com/

I shall definitely be going along to the Saturday, given Low and Beth Orton are also on the bill...

Did anybody else go along to this? Mrs S and I went along and it was absolutely beautiful. I haven't received the album yet, having only heard it on Soundcloud, but I'm guessing the liner notes explain the different bee noises. We were greeted by folk in bee keepers' outfits at the entrance and then walked down a net-lined corridor with descriptions of the various bee sounds, to the hall itself.

The musicians (Jason was listed as one of the performers, but he wasn't there last night, maybe he was there on Thursday) played behind a thin veil onto which was projected various bits of bee footage combined with live footage of the performers. I'm not doing this justice...

It was great, nuff said.

Am really enjoying this lush, sad, calming, beautiful and funny record.
I can tell it's going to be an old standby for me, in time.
It's such an elegant project.

Yes, there are some terrific liner notes on the "toots and quacks"

And not even punning around this time: when I transferred this to the ipod there were a few older selections in my computer waiting to be transferred and one of them was indeed Screaming Trees "Buzz Factory". I got a good laugh out of that.

I went on Thursday - manage to coordinate a night in Nottingham with work. Really enjoyed it, and enjoying the LP that I played front to back 3 times yesterday on the drive back.
I thought JP was on stage on the left, changing between various guitars, keys, and some odd handheld keyboard that he was blowing up via a tube?
Never realised Bees were so soulful - made for a good night, all over by 8.20 pm!

A melodica. Very popular in reggae, check out Augustus Pablo's recordings.

Haven't heard the album yet, vinyl and cd was ordered for me as a birthday present and i've yet to receive it. I've also resisted the urge to have a pre-listen elsewhere.

I had BBC 6 music on yesterday morning, when what I thought was something by BE came up - except it's credited as:
Kevin Bales And Tony Foster - Begging Signals

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08y9wd5
2h47 minutes in - and it's just a short 1 min piece.

Wondering whether that's actual new material or a shorter version of something already released as BE. And why's this not BE?

folkie — Kev and Doggen have been working together on a bunch of things with violinist Deirdre Bencsik. I know this because my wife had asked them to produce a piece of music for a brand experience.

The stuff they sent over was very similar and quite lovely.

Best,
