Doesn't do it for me, but possibly not quite as bad as previous releases?

Credit to him though for daring to sound a bit political in the album write up.

Against my better judgement, I gave it a play.

Switched it off after 3 mins.

Dull.

Liam Gallagher likes it though, apparently. https://twitter.com/liamgallagher/statu ... 6117362688

I will give it a listen out of morbid curiosity, but the LP title alone is unbearably bland: These People. Ugh. So boring.

Nah, a Chvrches song would actually be good.

Yeah, that was pretty dire. Not that I expect anything worthwhile from Dickie these days, but still

I was all ready to defend this, as I think Ashcroft's solo career often gets a unjustifiably bad rap. however this is rather bad. very bland. It's now almost like he's challenging himself to come up with the dullest song titles and lyrics ever.

It makes you realise that Alone With Everybody actually wasn't that bad :D at least he had a good way with a chorus in those days.

One thing I will say- his voice still sounds great. That might actually be improving as he gets older.

So sad as he really was one of my musical heroes- one of the greatest frontmen. maybe that's the point- great singer, great frontman, but apart from a purple patch in the 90s, not that great a singer-songwriter.

I think a number of excellent Ashcroft songs came out of the Alone With Everybody period, including surprisingly great b-sides. It was a really promising start to his solo career. I was still a big fan and saw him play a small show at Double Door where he absolutely killed it. Then Human Conditions came out and I was totally baffled. I wanted so badly to like it, but the songs weren't there. It's been downhill ever since.

As for the new song, it's not available in the US. Fucking ridiculous. What a garbage way to promote a new album, by not allowing the entire U.S. to hear a note. So dumb. I tried to watch the video via Vevo and YouTube and neither worked. I guess my morbid curiosity of what I'm sure is a terrible song will go unfulfilled. No huge loss, I suppose.

i find it, in hindsight a very challenging piece, as the listener is challenged to listen to the end

all saints announced their comeback and new single- but you can't listen to it for a frew more weeks. interest lost...

yeah some great songs on Alone With Everybody- some weird and crap lyrics, and over production aside, I actually think it's a pretty solid album for what it is. which is kind of slick MOR indie pop. I thought it made sense for his solo work to sound quite different and anyone expecting A Storm In Heaven part 2 was in cloud cuckoo land.
I thought BJ Cole's pedal steel worked well with his voice too.
There's a B side called Leave Me High which is a good song as well.

B side for Money to Burn called 'XXYY', best thing he ever wrote. he rapidly went to shit after that.

Ashcroft ?! Long forgotten. Haven't heard from him in years. Yeah, the artwork is funny. Only bought his first solo album, it's okay to say the least and never bothered with the rest of his stuff.

Got to 01:38
Same tired old formula
The Lou Reed/Bowie looking picture off to the right didn't help
Neither did the branding style of his initials
Irrelevant now really...which is kind of a shame

Not blessed with imagination then...to think I was dumbstruck once seeing the Verve in a tent somewhere in Ayrshire God knows how many years ago...
