check this out.
new band from Ethan and Noel from Comets on Fire, along with Meg Baird from Espers and Charlie from Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound- so a supergroup of sorts.
it's in the psych-folk category but not as laid back as I first imagined.

Re: Heron Oblivion
Really really enjoying this album. It's great stuff. This isn't just your knock off side project.
Here's an article about the studio where they recorded it. It also talks about the san francisco psych scene in general and other bands that have recorded there including Six Organs and Comets on Fire

Also noticed in the article that Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound have split up. Shame.

Re: Heron Oblivion
This is very interesting music; although at first glance, I thought the Thread read "Heroin Oblivion".

Re: Heron Oblivion
Heroin Oblivion- the title of the next Libertines album?
glad some of you guys are enjoying this album too. for me, it's a contender for album of the year.
would be cool if they make it across the pond for some shows, but apparently they are not touring properly, just shows here and there.
what does 'loser edition' mean?

Re: Heron Oblivion
Not sure to be honest. It was an indies only version and its a title I'm sure I've seen used before....maybe on Low's last album?angelsighs wrote:what does 'loser edition' mean?

"Loser Edition" is what SubPop records calls their special edition version of records. They'll usually be on colored vinyl and have a different outer sleeve.

Head up Heads! Heron Oblivion live set (with video feed!) from Monty Hall WFMU today on Brian Turner's show 3pm-6pm est

Tuesday, June 14th, 3pm - 6pm: Heron Oblivion (live from WFMU's Monty Hall May 26th with Videostream)
On their debut LP out this year on Sub Pop, this relatively new Bay Area combo have forged a unique alchemy between elements of dreamy psychedelic folk and meltdown electric guitar freakery. And with good reason: their lineup includes singer/drummer Meg Baird (of Espers/Watery Love), guitarist Charlie Saufly of Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound, and Noel Von Harmonson (on guitar) and Ethan Miller (on bass) of the late great Comets on Fire, a band that recorded two blowout sessions on Brian's program in the mid 2000's. Today's session is a recording of a May 26th bill Brian presented with Endless Boogie and Chris Forsyth's Solar Motel Band that took place at WFMU's Monty Hall. As a bonus, you can watch the whole set live from our stream at 5pm ET on http://www.wfmu.org!
So I guess it's not truly live.
But it does start in about an hour and a half.
