2016's list of famous folks departing just gets longer...

The influence of Fairport Convention's violin player Dave Swarbrick is without question - that band fused psych, folk and rock better than any other of their ilk, and at the peak, alongside Richard Thompson's guitar and sandy Denny's vocals, was Dave's violin.

He was 75 but had been very ill for some time and his death a few days ago wasn't completely unexpected. Reports of him playing onstage more recently with a cylinder of oxygen to help ease his emphysema are widespread.

Pretty sad all round. RIP Swarb.
