Minor-Victories

Post by MODLAB »

Well I must say. It is one great album. You can hear all the strengths of each musician. Rachel for her voice, Stuart for his guitar and Justin for the bass, guitar and knob twisting.

I cannot recommend it more. Anyone else feel the same?

Actually this year has been very good for music.

Great album. Definitely enjoying it. Unfortunately, they had to postpone their US tour due to visa issues.

Just a word of warning about the Minor Victories LP, the white vinyl limited edition version is mastered at such a low level of volume that the music comes across as limp, lifeless and one dimensional, most importantly it lacks any power and drive. I was deeply unimpressed with the LP but noticed I had my preamp on 34 where my normal listening levels are at about 16.

I downloaded the FLACs and played them back on my streamer. Firstly, I was nearly pinned to the rear wall of my room by the volume. Turning the preamp back down to the usual levels reveals an excellent LP dynamics, powerful and full of life. I really like it.

The moral of the story, avoid the white vinyl pressing like the plague, it is awful if my copy is representative. I thought I had broken my cartridge or phono-stage it is so different, but all is OK mechanically. I'll probably return the white vinyl if there is a better pressing available. Can anybody comment on the standard UK pressing please? Did anyone else buy the white vinyl and notice the same thing, maybe I got a duff copy.

The MP3 > AAC file played very nicely on my NAIM MUSO.

Liking this also.

If you get it from Rough Trade there's a bonus CD too.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

The U.S. Fat Possum pressing sounds great and comes on a nice coke bottle translucent green vinyl.

spotted this in the Rough Trade shop the other day. it's orchestral versions of some of the songs apparently.
